disconnect it from the computer
check for any obstructions inside the unit
power on the unit while still disconnected from the computer
observe the printhead's movement

I had same problem. Try this YOUR OWN RISK. Manually recharge the messagge "empty" cartriges with universal ink, recharge to FULL level. Now message is gone. Message will be back aprox a mid level.
