When switching the monitor on the screen does show its on and the power light is also on but there are no visuals. I see a couple of people on the net with the same problem and I don't think the suggested solutions are helpful. Does it mean the Monitor has a 3 year long life only.

How to fix a Dell Monitor that just flashes the power light or also flashes the screen on and off very fast. In this video I repair my E178FPb with this problem. In my video, I show how to take it apart, recognize the problem, and replace the parts. I ordered the parts off Mouser and it only cost around $6 with shipping. The problem was visual and I found 2 electrolytic capacitors bulging and a ceramic capacitor burnt.

A blinking blue light indiactes that your power-inverter board is not
putting out what it should. It needs an overhaul which may be a simple
as changing out the capacitors on the boards.
It could go beyong that to transistors or even a bad bulb.
It will have to be opened up to do that.
A picture may show visual signs of damage. If you can take one and email it to me , I'll take a look.
Sorry to say, but it sounds like you power board is due for an overhaul.
It should be fixable since it does show signs of a little life left in it.
It would have to be taken apart. A visual may tell for sure.
Look for bulging capacitors (canister looking things) This a sign of a typical failure.
Of course, not all capacitors bulge when they go bad. That would make things too simple !!
two case trouble reason and need to do:
1) back light driver (inverter) works not stable and DC power protect. it near some component damage, should repair inverter by egineer.
2) back light (lamp) over life cycle so protect by the inverter, should change new lamp (regular parts)
3) DC power supply not stable or component over life( wave filter capacitor), should be replaced
This seems to be a problem of the Invertor or powersupply board. If you are technically able check the boards visually, look for bulging discoloured capacitors. Try replacing these components it may solve your problem.
