Bar oil adjuster is located? - Husqvarna Forest & Garden No.967012396 345 16" Gas Chain Saw

MS291 Does NOT have an oil adjustment screw. It is an auto oiler. Make sure the ports are clean and oil is coming out running the saw with chain off. Then add a little canola oil to your chainsaw bar oil and thin it down. You will get a better flow. Stihl has a poor design on this model.

turn the saw upside down, there is a flat head screw adjuster that is accessible from underneath (the bar side of the saw) it will have a + and - sign near it.

The oil pump is adjustable, if you remove the cover/bar and chain, you will see the adjuster screw to the top left hand side of the oil pump,located just behind the sprocket, it is a black screw, it is marked around the outside from 1 to 4, 4 being the highest setting.

The later machine does have an adjustable oil pump, the pump is three position, the adjuster screw is located on the bottom of the crankcase, on the drive side, it is a brass coloured screw with a flat screw driver head, undo the screw for the highest oil flow, you will feel a click at each position.

Remove the bar and chain after releasing the chain brake. Clean the engine case where the bar fits next to and start the engine--oil should ooze out of the port in the case. If it squirts out, there should be an adjustment screw head that is located in the rear of the case near the returning chain area. Turn the screw CW to reduce oil delivery. Clean the small oil passages in the drive end of the bar that run from the large holes out to the chain groove on each edge. When everything is re-assembled, start the engine and run it at speed with the bar tip near some cardboard for a moment or two. It should throw off a thin line of oil. Adjust the volume screw until you achieve that result. Hope this helps!

Remove the bar and chain. Clean the engine side case where the bar fits. Does the oil port itself leak or is it coming from the engine case? If from the case, it may be a loose or split line from the tank or it could be a cracked oil tank. If the tank is cracked, replace it as there is no glue or epoxy that can permanently repair it. If the leakage seems to have stopped, clean the drive end of the bar including the two small oil passages that run out to the chain groove. Re-assemble the bar and chain, then run the bar tip at speed near some cardboard for a few moments--it should throw off a thin line of oil. This saw should have an oil volume adjustment screw located near the chain return area on the back or underneath the case. Adjust CW to reduce the oil volume. Hope some of this helps!

Check to see if there is an oil-volume adjustment screw located near the lower part of the chain where it goes into the cover, but mounted in the main case. It might be underneath the case in about the same location. Turn it CCW somewhat, if found, and check for oiling by holding the bar tip running at speed near some cardboard. If properly oiled, it will throw off a thin line of oil after several moments. If there is no adjustment, then you will have to investigate the oil pump, lines, and filter/valve in the oil tank. Make sure to clean the small oil passages in the drive end of the bar. Hope this helps!

First, deactivate the chain brake, back-off the chain adjuster, then remove the bar and chain. Run the engine at speed for a moment or two--the oil should ooze out of the engine side port. If the oil quantity seems about right, then clean the drive end of the bar oil-passages including the two small passages that go out to the chain groove on each side. Clean the chain groove and check the sprocket on the far end (if equipped). Reassemble the bar and chain, then start and run the engine at speed for several moments with the bar tip near a piece of cardboard--it should throw off a thin line of oil onto the cardboard. Check the owner's manual for location of any oil-volume adjustment if needed.

To check for proper oiling, run the saw at speed with the tip of the bar near a piece of cardboard--it should throw off a thin line of oil after several moments of running. Adjust the oil adjust screw CCW for more oil. The screw is usually in the lower front or underneath the engine. Remove the bar and chain first before adjusting anything and check the oil passages located in the drive end of the bar for plugging--especially the two small passages that go from the large oil holes out to the chain groove on both sides. Start the engine without the bar and chain--look at the oil port where the bar mounts next to the engine. It should ooze out oil with the engine running fast. If nothing at all, the pump, oil lines, and oil filter in the tank should be checked. When everything seems to be working, then adjust oil flow for best operation. Hope this helps!

Just a thought: Is it cold where you are? At this saw mill where it is my job to keep chain saws running, learned years ago that you cannot use "bar oil" in winter. Need thinner oil, like motor oil. ....preferably a "non-detergent" motor oil, plain 30-weight is OK, HD30W will work, but the HD part causes the chain to stretch more so than standard bar oil. The bar oil literally is so thick in cold that it stripped the worm gear out of a Poulan Pro oil pump (plastic gear, anyways, wasn't much to begin with.) But thought you may want to try thinner oil, if it is cold where you are. Oh yea we also have 2-Husqvarna 359's with 20-inch bar, and use thinner oil in winter. Our Husqvarnas have an oil adjuster located on bottom, on clutch side. Straight slot screw adjustment.
