My daughter uses this thing all day long and recently it's started to freeze the movie. I don't know how to fix it. I try pushing buttons and nothing happens. The only way to get it back to normal is by unplugging it and starting all over again but it still keeps doing this. Can someone please help me.

Re: DVD Player Freezes movie. Becomes unresponsive.
Have you or your daughter ever cleaned it?? The scan head is most likely dirty, there are special cd's to clean DVD's /CD players. Also, you may want to buy something to clen the CD's while your at it.

There should be an option in your setup menu to perform a reset. Reset all settings to factory defaults and try it then. This will sometime sfix this problem. If not, then you are looking at a really expensive replacement main board that will cost you more than the unit is worth
if the bottom of the dvd is scratched it can cause this issue, if it's not scratched there may be a defect in the way the dvd was written. If you are playing from a file on your computer that has been downloaded, it may be partially corrupt, or the player has old codecs. Try using a different player like VLC on your computer, or use a CD/DVD cleaning kit, and a DVD player cleaning disc.
Is the player new? If it's a new DVD player and still under warranty, I would return it, exchange it or possibly, consider changing brands: perhaps to a Phillips brand DVD player. After all, the Phillips corporation guarantees its DVD players will play everything, just read the box in which the player's packaged - it's the best bang for your buck. With DVD players being so inexpensive these days, the best option is to buy new. Keep computing Chomskyites.
Use a good dvd cleaner & clean the player. If this works then problem solved, if not then check the back of the dvd for deep scratches. those are the two common causes of the problem you describe. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.
Burn your DVDs at tow positions slower than what the system and discs say. It sounds as if there is a huge amount of error being introduced during the write process. Unfortunately, the old discs can only be recovered with an external program like Zero Assumption Recovery or the like....accordianman
it might be that you are playing a dual layer dvd in the player. The player needs to focus on the second layer of the movie, and that might be why the dvd freezes. Leave it there for a while and the dvd should continue if it is this situation.
i have the same problem, i put any dvd and it freezews during the play. there is nothing to do, must restart and sometime have to wait one day before i can restart. i have tried at leat 12 different dvd and it freezes everytime on every single one of them. I have tried clening... no success. Now Sony replacement plan cost 150.00!!!! I have paid 200.00 for the player. At this point i hsould buy a new one or get a replacement? Probably replacement but at that price I feel i am buying a new one.... I am disapointed with Sony. Don't buy DVP-FX810 seems i am not the only one with the problem.
