Sounds like the spider arm(s) are broken in your machine. It is the part that supports the wash drum in the machine. It's a major repair job and can be expensive to fix. Get a few estimates before deciding whether it is worth fixing or replacing the washer.

Hello,
It sounds like the bearings are starting to go.The problem is as it is 6 years old the repair job could be expensive, unless you have an extended warranty. It still might be worth getting a quote off one of your local repair dealerships.
Hope this helps.

Making loud noise in the spin cycle and now does not spin at all

Sounds like the tub bearing is gone. Get it checked out though. It could be the pump bearing, a cheaper fix. Or as bad as the tub bearing, a motor bearing.

Maytag washer makes loud grinding noise during the spin cycle

if it's making a noise then either your drain pump bearing is going out or your thrust bearing is going out (assuming the noise happens in both spin and wash). Tip the washer backwards so that you can get underneath of it. Take the belt off and spin the pump pulley on the right side. This should spin effortlessly.

The middle pulley is the trustbearing pulley. Spin this--- one direction it should have a little bit of resistance--- the other should have more resistance

Whirlpool Washer

Hello,

Need the model number???

The grinding sound sounds like the transmission if it is a top load washer.
If that starts to happen that the transmission it is not always worth fixing.
If the washer is 8 years old or more and you have to invest in a trans!!!!!

No the clips can only be some thing that was in a pocket or fell into you laundry basket .
And sounds unrelated to the grinding!
If you plan to keep the washer, better not leave that grinding go!!!!!!!!
Let me know how you do.
Thank You for using our site.
