Question about LG RU-44SZ51D 44" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

2 Answers

Television I have a similar model RE44SZ21RD LG Rear Projection TV only 2 years old. The power light comes on at red and you have to press the stand by button on remote to get it to change to a flashing orange light but then it just goes back to red stand by again. It is going to cost £225 to fix they say its a deflection on power supply circuits but I'm not sure if they have much experience of these TVs. Help

Re: television

This could be the lamp that is faulty, it is located on the right hane side of the tv and is encased in a box, undo the 2 screws and you will see it. If the lamp is blown the element in the middle will be shattered. There are and addittional 2 screws to take the lamp out to inspect, these screws should be able to be take out by hand

Re: television

Im not sure if they are experienced at the repair as well but you can look in your owners manual to see where to call to find a local servicer for these sets as these are really complicated sets and if they the servicers dont knowe much about these sets or are shotgunning a repair you could be in trouble. Its always a good idea to find an authorized dealer for your repairs as they will have access to all the correct parts and service diagrams and not simply using replacement generic parts. Good Luck

All I can suggest is to replace the bulb. I experienced a similar problem after about 2 years viewing when the recommend lamp life was approx 8000 hours (I got to approx 3000 hours). There is a service menu you can access where you can reset the lamp hours time. I have read that if this is reached you must replace your lamp, but you can extended this by reseting the hours.

I have since learnt that a lamp bulb can go at anytime, so it is worth having a spare. Also I have noticed that switching the TV off at the switch (not leaving it in standby helps).

Try this to access the service menu. Holding down the menu button on the remote and the one on the TV for a few seconds. I think the TV needs to be off.

From memory, I think it is option 4 and option 5, then reset the lamp hours to zero

My sony tv will not stay on

If you replace the lamp and need to reset the Lamp Timer Reset procedure is: With The Set In Standby Press Display, 5, Vol Up, Power on the remote control Press Jump 3. Or, To Display The Lamp Time Press 2 Nine Times. To Reset Press 3, Mute, Enter. One of these should work on your model. Make sure you replace the bulb first. There is a possibility that the ballast could be damaged by a defective bulb as well.
