Re: where can i buy hard drive for iriver h10 5gb ?
You cannot buy this component part from the company - your best bet would be to go to eBay and see if anyone is selling one with a broken screen, and no other known hard drive defects. Even then, it won't do you much good unless you are an expert solderer/electrician. Good luck.

Good chance it is the hard drive - that's a fairly old technology. I have heard of some people having some success replacing the HD with a compact flash card on some older mp3 players, I seem to recall the connector is the same. I guess if you have a suitable CF card reader, you may be able to remove the hard drive and check it out with the reader - there are some hard drive diagnostic tools out there you can try. Gibson research's spinrite was pretty good back in the day, not sure it is still useful for more modern drives.
before you do this take the software off iriver even the hidden (place it onto pc)
make sure the hard drive you wish to place into your h10 is perfect match (it could be more gigs) you just want the size and speed....here you go http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKQFEweay1Y
i still have iriver h100 (with a toshiba 40gigs) before the h140 came out
hi there, open iriver again and take new drive out (reinstall hard drive, just an adjustment process). close it up and try to download / play a file.
now if this process dont work, save iriver software to pc and format the hard drive (this will erase the hard drive songs and all)..now reinstall the software from the pc...download your songs back to iriver and you should have a brand new Iriver ihp-140............if heplful feel free to rate
You cannot get replacement parts except from a cheap broken H340 on eBay - the motherboard may be damaged on the one you order. Not available form manufacturer. Most of the time, I would say that these are not economical to repair, but 40GB players are hard to find - call best Buy's Geek Squad and see if they will do it. Otherwise, you will have to go with a local Mp3 repair service (Philadelphia is one of the few cities that actually has one of these).
the iriver series by default is not detected as a usb drive. iriver music manager is needed to transfer files.
After a firmware upgrade, the device is usable as a usb hard drive. But you need the music manager software to upgrade
