How to open a shure beta 58 microphone?

To open a wired Shure Beta 58, unscrew the handle at the mid point. A new cartridge from Shure includes the upper part of the handle.

The Beta 58A is different.

Shure 58 when plug it has no sound

First i would check the cable. If cable seems good I would buy some contact cleaner and try cleaning the xlr pins on the bottom of the mic. Last i would take the set screw out of the side of the mic and carefully remove the xlr assembly. There are 2 wires connected to that and not a whole lot of slack so be careful. Basically make sure they are still soldered on.

What holds the 3 pin connector in the bottom of a shure bets 58? it won't stay in...How do I secure it?

there is a small screw in the side of the xlr connector and a small hole in the body of the mic.put everything together until you see the screw thru the small hole.tighten the screw clockwise and the job done!

Shure SM2 Headset/Mic wiring

Headset connection: Blue wire to Pin 2, White wire to Pin 1, Yellow wire to Pin 3. Connect Pins 1 & 2.
Microphone connection: Black wire to Pin 3. Red wire to Pin 2. Ground wire to Pin 1.
I am using a male/female 7-pin XLR connector assembly to black box. I am using two 3-pin XLR connectors, one for SM2 microphone function, one for SM2 headset function.

Shure beta 58

Benimur, you are correct, except that the Beta 58 is a condenser mic that required phantom power. In that case all 3 lines are used. Included below are the connections.

New cable for my Shure Beta 58A Professional

It could be the wiring in the 1/4" jack in your amp. Check the metal contact plates on the 1/4" jack in your amp and see if they are getting contact to the jack. Sometime they get bent.

If the XLR end of the cable can be serviced, check the ground connection to the cable and see if its good.
