I use a Motorola XTS 5000 2 way radio at work. It displays a message "Key Failure"' and intermittenly beeps. It will not allow transmissions. Can I program a fix or does it need to be repaired?

It needs to be looked by a programming technician in a radio shop. "Key Failure" means that a secure encryption key has not been loaded into the radio and you have set the switch for using encryption to the "on" position. This switch is located under the channel switch on top of the radio and in your case it should be set to the "O" position and not the "O" with the line through it. The XTS radios can be programmed to retain the encryption key when the battery is removed OR to keep the key even if the battery is removed, so it depends on how your radio was programmed as well.

I have a motorola xts 2500 800 mghz. Im gettin a circle with a line through it symbol on the dispay on 1 talkgroup only and getting a "key fail" when I push to talk. Any ideas?

The circle with a line through it emblem indicates your radio is scrambling the channel chosen. Your key fail message likely indicates your radio has a programming problem or other problem requiring dealer assistance.

Best regards.

1efe_2.jpg Please wait Image not available I used this antenna, from ebay. It's twice the length. I bought a pair of these:spacer.gif UHF Antenna for Motorola HT1000 MTS2000 MTX8000 095A
I tested it last weekend in Vermont, 1.72 miles, 60 feet elevation differential, through woods. First unit inside a wood frame dweling. Second unit was inside a steel frame building, wood sheathed. Communications was faultlessly clear.

Bleed over to other channels

When you make an announcement, It wil overide other normal traffic, Announcements take priority. Assuming you are useing a 6809 controller. Look at the announcement talkgroup, with your RSS or use CAS to look at the 6809.
Good Luck., Bill

Volume

If you are talking about a new from the factory radio, there is no way to increase volume. If you are talking about an existing radio which has lost volume over time, short of cleaning the grill of debris, and using a known good battery, there is no fix for low receive audio.
