The wireless on my compaq F700 stoped working. No longer getting a blue light with wireless switch turned on.

  • davidnorth Oct 14, 2008

I have a compaq presario F700 and the wireless also stopped working. The light shines orange and the switch doesn't do anything. windows vista doesn't show any adapter listed in the device manager for wireless. any ideas?

  • Anonymous Oct 25, 2008

Same problem here. Blue light stays orange when move to on position. Can access internet with cable, but wireless is a no go...thanks for your help as this is extremely frustrating

i have the same problem . how do i fix it??

  • jaimec567 Nov 15, 2008

my adapter is showing a orange light but it doesnt do anything. it does not appear on the device manager. I think is the wireless adapter so I bought another one. I asked for hp spare number 441090-001 but they sent me 407159-001. it is not working either. I am not sure if it was a mistake or if this one was supposed to work too.

  • darkhouse Nov 29, 2008

Same problem here with a Presario F700. Orange light is constant with WLAN switched to the "on" position. Also, like others no listing of adapter in DEVICE MANAGER.

This seems to have happed during a recent Windows Vista Update. Because it worked flawlessly for nearly a year and then once an update was attempted the broadcom 802.1 g/b driver failed to install (via windows 'optional' update). I think that 'failed' install has corrupted the driver somehow... either by not fully uninstalling old driver or not fulling installing new driver.

I have attempted to do a System Restore back to date well before this said update to NO AVAIL. Then I tried to install the driver directly by downloading it from compaq.com... it also failed to install ( it gave a compatability error). Also, BIOS settings provided no solution. My next step will be to search the registry for instances of this broadcom driver and delete them then try re-installing it.

What a pain... for now I'm placing full blame on Windows Vista.

No wifi, same issue as evryone here

  • damienamarty Feb 03, 2009

I have the same issue, I just have to restart my computer.
Also, does your's occasionally refuse to come out of sleep mode?

  • darkhouse Feb 10, 2009

I finally gave up on my own fixit solutions and sent it in to HP. Luckily, mine was still covered under the manufacturer's warranty (barely one week under a year).

HP fixed it for free...even paid for ALL shipping costs! That was fantastic! I am up and running all around the house wirelessly. LOL.

I can usually fix tech problems like this one, but given that it was under warranty I opted to do that. I suggest anyone else to do the same. They even have a tool on their website to see if yours is under warranty.

I must say that this whole thing is a hardware problem, at least in my case was confirmed to be so by HP tech support. In fact, if you have problems with it not being under warranty I would complain to them and reference any forums to support your claim. Hey, it might just make them do a recall or at least get your laptop fixed. Good luck.

    Hi,

    I have Presario F700 notebook.

The wireless device shows yellow instead of blue (no matter where I set the switch next to it).

It was working fine last night.

    Now no wireless device.

    Warrany expired Oct 2008.

Is there a fix for this?

I have the same problem. One thing worked for a bit-the idea came from Jim Neutron going into BIOS f10 and the f9 then save, BUT it seems I have to conituosly do this everytime I want wireless.I tried repairing/changing broadcom and tried updating nvidia or whatever, but not sure exacctly what the problem is??? Maybe "they" just want us to buy a new one becuz warranties and/or vista problems, such as, compatibility, but why not work-it has been working fine for about a year and a half now???

  • xxkevonxx May 21, 2009

same problem really new it fixed for school

  • anash35 May 11, 2010

I also have a Compaq Presario F700 and I did what was recommended by the guys here. I went to the BIOS and restored it to Factory Default but the wireless is not being detected. What do you guys recommend I should do?... Can I still call HP Tech support even if I don't have a warranty on this computer.

I just had the same problem today and fixed it with HP tech support. This is the instruction from them: at bootup, hit F10 to go into BIOS mode. At the BIOS screen, hit F9 which loads the factory default setup. Exit and Save. They asked me to reload the Broadcom driver and Nvidia driver but I didn't have to. Mine was a F700 running windows Vista. Good luck.

I was so irritated with this problem until I figured out the way solve it, all the steps with reloading the drivers and the -F9-F10 on boot up- procedure worked once, then again I had the same dilemma. RESTORE TO FACTORY DEFAULT-then system restore to keep files. Automatically it should reload all the drivers ect... Create restore point first tho.

You have to restore your system. if your system can be restored without disks, click start----programs----recovery manager------advanced options------hardware driver installation-----select broadcom lan driver vista

restart your computer then you're good to go

if you have xp, I am sure the process is similiar.

good luck

I HAD the same problem. I says that your driver for your network card is not installed or did not start correctly at start up. If you want to get rid of this problem, go to system restore. and go back a few dates. the problem is that you driver tried updating but timed out during the update. so simply go back a few days and your problem is salved.
The Compaq Pre. F700 is a good laptop. but for your problem willy, all you have to do is update your 6401A driver to a new version compatible with Windows XP. I use my F700 for storage and media. i have an ASUS G71gx-rx05. my gaming laptop.

I have reformatted my presario f700 laptop (compaq) from windows vista home premium to windows xp professional and after reformatted, a problem occur regarding audio device/sound is not functioning. please...

If your using a card take it out until you have XP installed.
Go into your bios and disable all your audio settings until you have XP installed.
Check and see if your audio is even compatible with XP.
Disconnect the any external devices that are connected to the audio input until XP is installed.

Compaq Presario F700

IT CAN BE FIXED.. HANDS ON IS THE BEST WAY . LETS GIVE THIS A SHOT. COMPAQ NOT GOING TO HELP YOU THEY WANT YOU TO BUY ANEW ONE IF IT WORK WHEN IT HAD VISTA , IT WILL WORK NOW, I AM SURE OF THAT. YOU MIGHT HAVE TO HAVE IT COMPLETELY TAKEN APART AND RESET IT , BUT THATS ANOTER STORY , FOR now remove the battery and remove the ram/ memory card, then remove the hard drive , a sigle screw should remove the hardrive memory as well then i want you to hold down the power button for about 3 minutes , then insert harddrive only press power, if you hear a beep good sign if th power button remains after the harddrive is installed, hold power button till computer turns off then install ram memory USE YOUR POWER CORD THREW OUT THIS PROCESS freddiemccly@yahoo.com your computer can be fixed i know its easy said then done ITS MINOR but a tech will tell you the total opposite

Wi-fi showing disabled

You may find that the WiFi card needs new drivers. Some particular wifi adapters don't have XP drivers. Compaq are now owned by hewlett packard so go to www.hp.com and search for XP drivers for your wifi card there - luckily HP are very good for providing drivers for XP even on Vista-supplied systems.

You have to download XP drivers from the manufacturer's website. This normally happens because your harware was designed for the new OS(Vista).

Just go to hp.com and search for the model of your Laptop.
