OCR produces unreadable text

Dear Madam, Sir,

Scanning in 'OCR to MSWord' mode or 'OCR to Textedit' produces an editable, but unreadable text.

What can be wrong? Please help,

Paul Braat

SOURCE: Can't scan from HP Photosmart C7280 to my Mac Computer

The best way to scan documents from the scanner to your computer is to use HP Photosmart Essential. If you don`t already have it installed it can be downloaded from the HP site. Once in the program it is very simple to follow. It is basically a point and click operation.

Let me know how you make out and we can do other things if this doesn`t work for you.

Please remember to rate me.

I have a Lexmark x5650. I'm on a mac, upgraded my os from Tiger to Snow Leopard. Now I can't scan OCR text. Could scan to word document before, and get editable text. That is not an option now

If you still have the Lexmark X5650 install disc that came with your printer, re-insert it to your computer hard drive and run the program. This will help repair the OCR scan software and possible corrupted files necessary for scanning documents.

Text Cannot Be Edited After It Is Scanned to a Word Processing Program
Issue After scanning into a word-processing program, the text in the original is not editable. Workaround The process of changing text from an image to editable text is called optical character recognition (OCR). Text should automatically be converted in the OCR process when the Send To destination is a word-processing program. If it does not, check the items in the following list:
  • Select Editable Text as the image type in Scan Settings . In Windows XP, this setting is automatically selected if Scan Document is selected in the Director program.
  • Scan at a resolution of at least 300 dots per inch (dpi) for correct OCR conversion. Check the default resolutions in the Scan Settings on the Resolution tab.
  • If portions of the scan are cut off, turn off the Auto Crop feature in the Scan Settings on the Scanning tab by clicking to clear the check mark.
  • Tables, text boxes, and spreadsheets might not be editable. The border around them makes the OCR program read them as images. Readiris OCR, which is included with the HP Officejet G and K series, can recognize these images. Instead of selecting the word-processing program in the Send To list, send the scan to Readiris. Use the Table Drawing tool on the right side of the window to change the type of image to a table, and then use the OCR. The text inside of the box should now be editable.
NOTE: Handwritten messages might not be captured by the OCR process.

Your's Truly,

Christian from HP

Dear Sir, Recently, I have purchased a MF4320d Canon printer. The problem is this that the scanner of the printer is not scanning the text (OCR). Whenever I tried to scan some document in world it ask...

the scanner will always scan the documents as JPED or BMP, its the OCR software in your computer which will convert it to editable text.
if you dont have any OCR software then you can open the scanned image (TIFF) in microsoft office imaging software (something like that) and click on the W (Word) icon on the top toolbar to convert it to text

I am unable to edit documents that I have scanned. I have tried to download the OCR driver but I am still having a problem. Please help

If you are scanning text as an image, the image cannot be editred, because the computer doesn't know the image is text.

You have to scan with OCR to edit text.

You can use PaperPort to add text to scanned images

When scanning, the scanned page is not readable from a third of the page down to two thirds of the page.

It is important that the item you scan comes in close contact with the scanner glass. If the resulting scanned image is not clear, check to see that the item is in full contact with the scanner glass. The scanner uses optical character recognition (OCR) to convert text on a page to text that you can edit on your computer.
  • If you scan text but cannot edit it, make sure that you make the following selections during scanning:
  • Scanned text might not appear on your computer exactly as it appeared on the original, especially if the original contains faint or smudged text. For example, some characters might be incorrect or missing. As you edit the text, compare the scanned text against the original, and then make corrections as necessary.
  • To change text scanning options, click the Scan Document Settings button in the initial What are you scanning? screen.
  • The OCR software is installed by default when you install the HP Scanning software during scanner setup. If you use the Custom option when installing the software, you can choose not to install the OCR software. Try reinstalling the software using the default install options.
  • Email to jdiaz@coretec.us
  • If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
    Thanks, Joe

Scan and Edit

i believe this is called OCR scanning, character recognition so that the text can be edited in text editors. I have not used works to know if it has a text capture feature but I'm aware of scanning software that offer OCR capabilities, i used to have that on my old scanner, i do not remember the name of the software but here's what google turned up for OCR scanning:
