Widen the screen on Westinghouse tv

Screens are controlled by ASPECT RATIO.
Monitors can have 4:3 16:9 and 16:10 ratios.

You are doing 1 of 3 things.
  1. You have a regular monitor and the tv and are duplicating the screen.
  2. You have a regular monitor and the TV and are extending the screen.
  3. You have just the tv connected.
Your video card has to have a screen resolution that meets the tv's ratio to have the tv take the full screen.

If your configuration is 1. the tv will only match the monitor resolution, so if you change the screen resolution, you may get bars on the monitor, and the tv will go wide screen.

if your configuration is 2. the tv is controlled independently and you can select it to change its resolution to an appropriate aspect resolution. *this requires that your video card gives you the correct screen resolution for your tv. not all displays will work.

If your configuration is 3. the tv is the only resolution that is being pushed and just adjust the resolution til the screen is filled in.

To adjust the screen resolution, right click on the desktop where there isnt an icon and select either Properties (windows xp) or Screen Resolution (windows vista, 7 and 8).

if you have 2 screens press the identify button and it will put a number on each screen. click the appropriate screen and go to the resolution dropdown below. Change, apply and if it doesn't look right, revert and try a different setting. if you try them all and it won't take up the full screen, then the video card can't push the video resolution your monitor wants.

try a different monitor or hook it up on a tv (most new TVs have PC input) and see if it is your monitor or PC.

How do i run my computer to my tv. I hooked it up through HDMI and it shows my background but nothing else.

Your monitor and your TV are currently screen 1 and screen 2 with screen 2 as an extension of screen 1 (you can move your mouse all the way across and see it come over to the TV screen). With Vista or Windows 7, right click on the desktop (no icons or programs) and choose Screen Resolution. There you will find options to change your screen output. (The choices are fairly straight forward - both screens identical, screen 1 or screen 2.) For XP, the right click on the desktop will get you to the point but I think it was called Display Options.

I hope this helps.

The projector is projecting an "out of range" message for a powerpoint presentation. I know it works b/c it switches to DVD just fine. Also, when I unplug the cable from teh comp to the projector the...

Whether you have a laptop or a desktop hooked up to this projector, you will need to adjust the resolution of your desktop to a level that the projector can handle. Without the Model number of the projector, I cannot tell what the resolution should be. I would hook it up and then lower the resolution level of the PC as see if it shows a picture. Does the projector show your desktop image on the screen? If not then changing the resolution will solve the problem.

I hope that I have provided the correct information that will assist you in the resolution of this issue.

I Have just bought a cable to hook up my Laptop to my TV and it work once and now it wont. please help me..

Hello Handsome Rob,

I have experienced this too. I believe the problem is your screen resolution setting. Drop the laptop to the the 640 x 480 resolution and reboot. Make sure you have the correct input selected on the TV and you should be set. Please let me know how it works out for you.

Not supported mode error

Hi, boot up to an F8 and select safe mode. While there change your screen settings to 800X600.

The available resolutions in the windows operating system has to be compatble with the TV screen you are hooked up to. try lower settings first.
Thank you and god luck.

How do I use the s-video link from the acer aspire 5520 to my tv??? Thank you

To enable the s-vidoe on an Acer simply press these two keys at the same time on the keyboard: "FN" + "F3"

You may need to change the resolution on the output to the TV if it is too small or too big.

Change Resolution:
  1. Click "Start"
  2. Click "Control Panel"
  3. Double Click "Display"
  4. Click the "Settings" tab on the top
  5. You will see 2 displays in the box , and an "Identify" button on the bottom. Hit that button and see what number your TV shows , should be #2
  6. Click on the screen with number 2 on it then look near the bottom, there will be a section that says "Resolution"; slide it to the left to make it bigger and the right to make it smaller
