Thank you. I will try this. Also, Convergence + reading a high of 18+ Volts, whereas the service manual is showing a low reading of 0.46V. Can this be a STK 392-110 problem or something else? Are the STKs soldered on th ebottom of the board or only surface mounted? any help is appreciated

  • rams_20879 Sep 13, 2008

Thanks fo ryour help. We were able to remove the board successfully. Installed the STKs and the turned the TV on. Th evertical line looked good which was blurred before. But,oteh rcolor needed adjustment. So, while trying to adjust the covergence 2, the TV turned off and started blink 5 times. According the manual, it is IC 4011. Is this realistic? The TV sreen was dull not very bright either when adjusting convergence. Noticed bridge conenctor came off so put it back. But, still TV is not switching. Any advice?

  • rams_20879 Sep 14, 2008

I have checked the bridge conenctors. They look Ok. I even touched up the solder on STK chips. No improvements yet. The unit starts up and immediately shuts off blinking 5 times. Before I replaced the STKs, the unit was normal except the convergence off, especially the green vertical. After I replaced the STKs, the screen wa snot that bright but the Green vertical was perfect. When I started to adjust the convergence and brightness, the unit turned off itself and since then the problem do not go away. any idea?

  • rams_20879 Sep 14, 2008

I have checked all the resistors. They look fine, Any other ideas?

  • rams_20879 Sep 14, 2008

I did check with a digital meter. They are within tolerance.

How do you get into service mode for this panasonic?

Posted on Oct 26, 2008

I have a Panasonic PT47WX52F. Green convergence (Verical was distorted). TV was working but convergence issues. So, replaced STK 392110 bought from suburban electronics. The Green vertical line was straight and was glad to see that but the screen was not bright. During my convergence adjustments, TV went blank and error came up. It was flashing 5 times. Checked the resistors, they were right on the mark as they were supposed to be. But, I still went and replaced all the resistors. Still no improvement. Then I took the STKs out of the circuit and plugged the board with with no STKs. Still flashing 5 times. Then I replace with new STKs. But no improvement.
According to the service manual, 5 flashes is the IC 4011 (NTSC signal processing) which has nothing to do with the work done, convergence. The TV turns on for a few seconds and turns off, relay clicking is heard. . Any suggestions/comments are welcome

Those are bridge connectors they stay attached to the A board and release from the D board. Just slide a small screw driver under the bridge on the D board side and gently lift up they will pop right off.

yes the ICs are most likely not functioning to regulate the output voltages, they are solderd into the circuit board on the back side of the board.

double check all the wire connections especially the bridge connectors as it is very easy for the wires to jump out of the channel and end up shorting on theos bridge connectors

sounds like you may hae a open resistor from when the origional ICs went out. Panasonics have been known to open the 2.2 ohm 2watt resistors alot of times. have you checked the 2.2 ohm 2 watt resistors

you cant always tell by looking at them check them with a digital ohms meter they have to be within 5% tolerance of their ratings or the set wont have convergence control.

WS-65819 Shuts off

Yes, remove front speaker grill (pulls off) and inspection plate behind it.

There are 3 large circuit boards as you look from the front---signal to the right, power to the left and Deflection (vertical and Horizontal) in the middle.

What you want to look for is on the middle board any sign of GLYCOL which sometimes leaks from the picture tubes above it.

It is a clear liquid and even tiny amounts can short or stop the board from working; most damage should be in first 3 inches from front of the board----if you find any DO NOT TOUCH IT as it is toxic.

Glycol damage is not uncommon and the first thing you want to look for.

check for any physical shot in the board....
it ma happen only if the board turns faulty

remove all the attachments on the board sucha as ... processor ...ram... and any add on cards and then check .... if ok...
install the processor and then check........

Screen went black Panasonic TV/ PT-47WX53

Hello twisttolife,

What you have lost is horizontal deflection, this is caused by loss of the horizontal drive signal to the yoke transformers on the CRTs, for all three of these to fail at the same time is not likely so what I think is that the drive amplifier may have malfunctioned. To check this you will need:

1) schematic diagram or service manual (to determine the proper voltages and signals on the deflection board)
2) Multimeter (to measure the DC voltages on the components of the deflection board
3) Oscilloscope (to view the waveforms on the deflection board)

With these three pieces of test equipment you should be able to troubleshoot this problem.

Now if you do not have this equipment and what to take a chance at a blind guess, and just replace a board, I would suggest replacing the deflection board, this board usually contains the flyback transformer, the Convergence modules (which can cause this problem also), and the connections to the yoke transformers.

I hope this helps,

Replace IC Convergance chip in Panasonic PT-56HX41PF

Enter the tip of a pointed knife between the left side edges of the connector (circled in black in the attached pic) and gently tilt the knife away from the connector. Do the same on the right side. The connector should pop up.

Power Light blinking 5 times

check the resistors near the
stk's. There are some reports that they get fried when the stk's fry....or the other way around. The resistor ratings are labeled on the resistors. 2.2, 82, 180 or something like that. Also check the board as you turn on the tv. See if any glow red.

Bow in tv

Hello trumpold,

The bad new is the resistor is bad. If it is reading 2 ohms its bad because the rated value is .29 ohms and 5% tolerance. I would venture to say that the convergence amplifiers have gone bad. due to excessive current. Since the deflection and convergence boards work together they might both be defective. I would first suggest that you take the TV to a qualified TV repair shop, to perform the repair, but if you what to do this yourself you will need the following items:

1) Schematic of the TV in question (www.servicemanuals.net or www.manualsparadise.com

2) Signal Generator or use the on-board Signal Generator (look in schematic for usage.

3) Multimeter (for resistance, and voltage readings)

4) soldering iron, solder, and de-soldering tools (solder wick, and de-soldering pump)

With these items you should be able to determine the components you need to change, and remember follow the instructions in the schematic exactly as to board removal.

Before reinstalling the convergence board after changing out the convergence amps and ALL (I maen ALL) biasing resistors, check for solder bridges and shorts, removing them with the solderwick.

I hope this helps

Thank you,
