The screen is really dark

Locate the Fn (Function) key on your keyboard. It may be on the bottom left side with dark blue letters. Locate the two "brightness" keys near the top of the keyboard. These will be in the "F" keys, possibly if F6 and F7. They should have little sun pictures or something similar to indicate brightness. Hold down the Fn key while pressing F7, or whichever "F" key your laptop uses to increase brightness. Tap F7 repeatedly until you reach the desired brightness. Fn must be held down as you continue to tap. Hope this helps.

When I open my laptop, I have to press F2 but could not enter the bios, the screen becomes dark and went straight to windows. what should I do.

From the symptoms, it could be a faulty keyboard -

First though, are you pressing the F2 key soon enough?
I'd turn on the notebook and then start pressing the F2 key repeatedly.

If that fails, I'd borrow an external USB keyboard to test it with first and see if it does the same thing....

Often, if the keyboard has had something spilt in it, or it has come loose, of just failed, the keyboard will not respond to any input.

If, under windows, the keyboard works fine, then that may not be the issue... if it fails under windows, you'll probably need to replace the keyboard - usually pretty easy and cheap enough to do.

"the screen becomes dark" - too dark to see? or just dimmer, as if you took out the battery charger?
if you cannot see it at all, or just barely see it - the screen inverter may have gone, or the backlight in the lcd panel, or the cable from the mainboard to the inverter...

If you are still having trouble, feel free to provide some more info re describing the dark screen issue...

Hope this info helps.

Dark picture on monitor

Occasionally, you may find your laptop's monitor is too dim for your liking. A normal desktop computer's monitor has an on-board menu system that lets you adjust the brightness and picture control settings as you please. A laptop monitor has no such controls. You can adjust the brightness of your laptop monitor using your laptop's keyboard.

1. Press and hold the "FN" key on your laptop's keyboard. This is the "Function" key, which operates much the same way that the "Shift" key does: It allows keyboard buttons to be used for multiple purposes. It's located in the lower left corner of most laptop keyboards, next to the "Windows," "CTRL" and "ALT" keys.

2. Look at the top row of keys on your keyboard for a key with a tiny triangle pointing upwards and the symbol of a sun on it. This is the "Increase Brightness" key. With the "FN" key held down, press the "Increase Brightness" key. On most laptop keyboards this is the "F7" key, but it varies depending on the model.

3. Continue to hold down the "FN" and "Increase Brightness" key until your dim laptop monitor has reached the level of brightness you require. A laptop monitor can only get so bright. It will stop at its highest setting.
4. Release the "FN" and "Increase Brightness" keys. You have now fixed your dim laptop monitor.

I hope you find it very helpful. Thank you for using fixya

The computer starts and asks whether I wish to use the restore function. The microsoft logo appears just for a moment and then the monitor stays dark. Wonder if it might be a monitor problem

In order for you to rectify if its the display problem meaning the you monitor or if it is your harddrive where your OS is currently installed, try to go to BIOS and see if your display is working there properly..how? *Turn the Acer Aspire One computer on. Restart the computer if it is already on. *Press the "F2" key on the keyboard to enter the BIOS utility as soon as the "Acer" logo appears on the display. *Press the arrow keys to navigate throughout the BIOS menus. Press "Enter" make a selection. *Press the "F10" key when finished to exit the BIOS. once rectified that it isnt the display that causing the problem then, it must be your harddrive or the OS itself (if OS is the problem then you have to reformat your computer)
Hope this will help.. :)

Your keyboard has a special "Function key" (printed in blue). It is probably on the lower-left, next to the special Windows key or control key.
You also have several keys along the top row, also blue.
Hold the blue [Fn] and press the upper key that resembles a monitor. Release the two keys and wait a few seconds. If the monitor does not come on, wait a few more seconds, the press the two blue keys again. It will work.
By the way, the fluorescent lamp that creates the "backlight" for your laptop screen has burned out or the cable may be loose.

In power save mode

The monitor is not receiving signal from the computer. Is the power light on on the computer? If so - press and hold power button on computer until the power light goes off, then press again to restart. If the computer starts and you still have no picture it is most likely a video card or motherboard problem.

Monitor won't stay on. Error message comes up that says "no input signal", then monitor goes out.

Problem with the monitor, monitor cable, or video output. For monitor, if you have more than one input, make sure it's set to the correct one. Try a different cable. Try a different monitor. Check your video card settings--if you see the BIOS bootup screen while it's coming up then the Windows splash screen, then monitor blanks out, it's a Windows display setting. Boot into safe mode, then change settings--
  • Turn the computer on or Restart the computer
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Boot Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected (the top option)
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • When you are finished with troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.
