I have a 3 year old side by side Whirlpool Gold model MD5RHAXNC00. The ice maker has always worked fine until this week when it just stopped making ice. This unit does not have a metal arm like many others. Is there some other on off procedure or do I have some completely different problem?

If your ice maker doesn't make ice, check out these expert do-it-yourself ice maker repair ... W. Branner Side by side GE fridge, stopped dispensing ice both cubed and crushed. ... But now that it's cleared the motor won't run to dispense any ice (water .... Our Samsung French door ice maker is not working & is making noise.
By your question, you are saying you are not receiving water from the water dispenser. Make sure the electrical connector you disconnected when making the ice maker repair is securely re-seated. If you removed the door to make this repair, there is also a connector at the top of the door make sure it is also seated. The only other connection for water or ice delivery is at the water inlet at bottom rear of fridge. There are two relays at the water inlet, one for water, one for ice. If these were disturbed recheck that they were reconnected. Of course these checks should be performed with the power cord disconnected to prevent shock. Once all is checked, plug fridge back in. When dispensing water you should hear a solid clunk as the relay engages. As for the ice dispenser you will only hear the clunk as it requires water to fill the tray. Just remember to allow for two complete cycles (fill - freeze - dump) before receiving full cubes. Oh, by all means don't forget to make sure the Ice bucket full lever (Usually a thick wire) running the length of the bucket Is in the down (empty) position. If it is up, this turns off the ice maker indicating the bucket is full. New ice maker units usually come packaged with the (bailer wire) in the up (off) position.
Hope this info helps!
There are 3 things that can prevent an ice maker from not working.
1- Temperature of freezzer- Temp must be below 6 degrees on most ice makers.
2- Water inlet valve- Depending on how your ice maker cycles it calls for water for 7.2 seconds. If you have ice and water though the door you have a dual valve and the ice maker selinoid ine the inlet may be bad. Also make sure water is getting to valve. Just because water is coming through the door does not mean water is entering fridge. There is a reservoir in fringe that holds around 3 gallons of water that can still make water come out the door without water entering fridge.
3- Faulty Ice maker- over time the winding and other components can get worn out and fail.
First check the temperature in the freezer.
Next check the inlet valve. To do this you need to remove the hose going from the inlet valve to ice maker and switch with the hose leading to door. Push the actuator in the door to call for water and see if water enters the ice maker. If it does inlet is good. Replace Icemaker. If not replace inlet valve. There may be a problem with the icemaker still but wont know until inlet is fixed.

You may ahve a problem with your freezer temp. Check your setting. Turn down a few notches to see if problem goes away. Also Pull out your fridge and vacuum out your coils underneath unit. Plug coil causes freezer temp to rise. Rus
Sometimes filters have issues like this even being new , it is located at the bottom kickplate [round] , pick up a new filter -part number 4396841 - install the filter , dump remaining ice in bin out , purge the water through the new filter through water in door for a few minutes and you should be good.
the most comon problem is the ice machine in the freezer actuates at low teperatures. actuation is when the unit goes into harvest the ice. if your freezer is not aciving low enough temperature the ice machine stops working ' check to ensure the condensor under the fridge is not pluged with dust .Also make shure there is adiquit air flow around the ice machine. hope this helped someone . http://www.whirlpool.com/custserv/index.jsp
