Playstation 3 Component and HDMI cables not interfacing with T.V
My 42" LCD TV that I've had for over two years doesn't accept HDMI/component cables and is 1080i resolution from my playstation 3? I have had many electronic minded people look at it that own PS 3's them selves and it still wont work.

Hold down the power button on the PS3 for 5 seconds until you hear a beep. Go to your settings and display menu and change to the type of display you are running. if you get waves and bars then your TV can't handle what you are trying to do.

There is only one type of HDMI cable, so any HDMI cable should be fine. Component cables are an alternative to HDMI cables, but keep in mind that component cables do not carry audio, so you will need to have the audio connected separately. Our HD receivers work great with HDMI or component cables.

depending on the age of your play station you may or may not have an hdmi output on the playstation. if youi do then its simple. one hdmi cable from the tv to the playstation and yoiur done. if not, you should have some round color coded plugs on the back of the tv and the same ones at the playstation. they should be just larger than a pencil eraser. these are called RCA plugs or phono plugs. the cables will have the opposite end with pin sticking out. you can go to google images and type rca plug to see a picture.
THE BEST INPUT ON YOUR SET IS THE HDMI INPUT.2ND THE COMPOSITE INPUT. 3RD THE COMPONENT INPUT. AND 4TH THE ANTENNA INPUT. MOST DISH BOXES HAVE AT LEAST THE COMPONENT OUTPUT. YELLOW IS THE VIDEO AND RED AND WHITE FOR AUDIO. USE RCA CABLES TO GO FROM BOX TO LCD SET. ON THE DISH BOX YOU CAN GO FROM ANTENNA OUT TO THE CABLE OR ANTENNA IN ON THE LCD. SWITCH TV TO CHANNEL 3. AND TURN YOUR DISH BOX ON.
if I understand your question properly.. its because your direct tv output doesnt broadcast in high def so its giving you the standard tv definition inputs which are RGB or Component.so you will lose picture quality cos its running at fewer lines or pixels. hope this helps
