First thing I would like is the model of router you have. This is usually printed directly on the router itself. The second is to plug the ethernet cable (Looks like a big phone jack) into the computer and the Internet (Could be labeled WAN as well) port on the router. Then go to your computer click Start>Run then type cmd and press enter. You should have a black box appear, type ipconfig and press enter. Post back the result.

Same issue, cannot connect to my wireless connection at home...

1.Try upgrading the firmware on your router

2.unplug your router and/or modem and plug back in see if that makes any difference

3.connect gaming adapter directly to the computer, reset gaming adapter back to factory default settings, assign a static IP address on computer, for e.g. 192.168.1.10 subnet mask 255.255.255.0 default gateway to 192.168.1.1, logon to gaming adapter's setup page and edit the the wireless settings and IP address according to wireless router or Access Point and save the settings...remove the static IP from the computer and power cycle the n/w...open or trigger 10070-10080, 6000-6999 ports on the router for PS3 and check whether it works or not.

I have a cable modem with mediacom and a netgear g5608 router. i tried to hook up my computer, ps3, and xbox 360 but cannot get connected . whats the problem?

hi there! if your trying to hook up your cable modem to your netgear g5608 wireless router, First you need to clone the mac address of your network interface card to your wireless router in order the cable modem will communicate with the router. most cable modem reg the mac address of the nic of your computer.. Once your done of cloning the mac address to your router save the settings and turn off the computer, router and the cable modem.. turn on the cable modem first after 15secs then wait all the lights lit and turn on the router wait all the lights lit and the computer. your will notice that all your light is lit on the router and try to pull up the browser.. Now if you want to connect your ps3 and your xbox 360.. once your wired computer can access the internet, you will not have a problem connecting your wireless devices, you just need to setup your ps3 and xbox360 to connect and use the automatic ip address detect from your wireless devices.. you could either use static ip address and auto detect that your router will assign to your wireless devices.. if you still have any problem connecting your devices.. please feel free to call email me at dennis.ordinante@gmail.com or you can reach me at +09157222160.. good lick!!

I cant play online without the modem being by my ps3?

Yes, using a longer ethernet cord will work, but the PS3 has a bult-in WiFi card that can connect to any wireless router (you can buy a wireless router from a computer store like BestBuy).

If you are going to buy a wireless router, see if a wireless G-mimo or wireless N with signal boost is within your budget. Try looking through the network settings to see if you can connect through the wireless router.

Or just get a longer ethernet cord and run it directly to the PS3 from the router. Ethernet cords are the most reliable connection, granted you are on a good internet connection, they won't get interference from things like mobile phones, cordless phones, microwaves, TV's etc.

I have both the PS3 and Xbox 360 and the only thing I like better about the PS3 is the free online game play and Blue-Ray. Other than that, they're even. Good luck and have fun online! If you find me (wraith0127) say hi! Don't forget to rate. Thank you!

Turning on PS3 causes home wireless network to stop working

I have the same problem. My router is located about 1.5 feets from the PS3 and when I turn on the console my wireless network barely works. Something I did was change the frequency of the wireless. It was working in channel 9 and now it's on channel 3 with no problem.

Need help with ps3 internet hook up

you can go wireless, but personally wired is better. what router do you have? switch everything off, plug a ethernet cable from one of your ports on router to ps3 then then switch it all on. on ps3 go to settings - network settings - internet connection settings - then select easy - then whether you wanna do it wireless or wired (up to you) then let it do its thing, once its found all your settings you can test the connection.
Have you set up an account on your ps3 yet?

Can it be done?

All of the ps3 models support wired and wireless internet. All you need is high speed internet service, and a router (wireless router if you want wireless internet o.~) you plug the router into your high speed modem via ethernet cable. then you plug your computer and ps3 into the router with ethernet cables. your good to go! if you want wireless for your ps3 you need to use the wireless setup on the ps3. your done :)

Hope this helps.

Need help with ps3 internet hook up

The ps3 wifi is very finicky --
While the ps3 scans for a hotspot turn the router off then on so the router aquires the ps3.
Goto settings
Goto network settings
Goto network connection, select enable
Goto Internet connection settings just below internet connection-
Push yes when it says you may be disconnected
Select wired or wireless
For wireless use scan or enter manually
Follow on screen instructions.
Once that is set up return to main menu and go to network near the right
Then once in the internet browser press triangle and goto file and enter the internet address you would like visit.
If all else fail use the ethernet cable to attach it to your laptop. Then run network setup on the laptop and add the ps3.
