Question about GE Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

Just bought and installed a microwave model #HVM1540SN2SS serial #LR 900337B. When I start it, in just a few seconds there is an electrical buzzing sound and it smells like something burning. I have only tried to heat water in a coffee cup so far and have not run the microwave for more than 6-8 seconds before shutting it off. I am afraid to run it and need help now.

If it's clean inside and behind the stirrer cover, I would suspect a bad magnetron.

If you've had it less than 30 days (or whatever your dealer;'s return period is) I'd take it back.

Otherwise, since it's less than one year old, it should be fully covered under warranty. I'd suggest contacting the manufacturer to get it fixed free.

Ge space saver microwave oven Model number HVM1540SN2SS. Interior fan turns on when door is open. This just started yesterday. Please help

The possible issue may be some door sensor broken or work abnormal. Double check three door sensors, especially for two door sensors who are working on normal close state.

Ge microwave jvm160wj01 was working and suddenly started buzzing, gave bad electric/burnt smell and buzzes. Still buzzes and does not seem to heat now.

Sounds like the magnetron just shorted out. Its the part the generates the microwaves that heat the food. Buzzing sounds are a symptom of a shorted mag. Usually not worth fixing since the magnetron costs almost as much as a new oven. Sorry.

Microwave hood # 721.80833500

One of 2 things are happening..One of the thermo protectors has a bad connection (Kenmore is good for these) or the Magnetron has a leak inside the control cavity causing a temporary short in the control.

Microwave keeps blowing fuse

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that\'s usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that\'s usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

Microwave keeps blowing fuse

If it blows the fuse as soon as you hit the START button, it's almost certainly a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it blows a few seconds after you hit the START button, it's probably the high-voltage transformer. You'll possibly also smell a faint electrical burning smell from the rear vent after you shut if off.

If it blows the fuse as soon as it's plugged in, you probably have a shorted door switch, a shorted varistor, or an internally exposed wire shorting to the chassis, etc.
