This might have worked, but the system won't let me switch from Standard TV (480i) to EDTV or HDTV(480p). It's stuck on the former selection. Other settings will allow me to switch, but not this one. Any other suggestion about THAT circumstance?

    Less PO'd and more confused.

Try to change the settings on your Wii to play in 480i or 1080p witchever your tv is.
It sounds like a easy system configuration adjustment. Check both your Tv settings and if your using HD on the Wii try using just R/g/b (red, green, blue) wires. I would belive that the settings on your wii or your tv arent correct, just play around with these settings with the wii hooked up and on.
GOOD LUCK let me know if their isnt anything more I can do. MORE DETAIL CAN HELP YOU OUT because their might be 1 small thing you didn't do and can cause this.

Try resetting system settings to default and see if it will let you change your settings. Or try to move it to another tv for diffrent results.

Re-setting all your settings should allwow you to change the tv format

Wii steering wheel wont turn

Correct me if I am wrong, but it sounds like you are saying that it doesn't turn while playing a game. If this is so, then it not the steering wheels fault. It is the Wii controllers fault. The steering wheel has no affect on the game or actual controller. It is just to simulate the wheel in the racing game that you are playing. So the problem must be with the gyroscope in your Wii controller. You can try to send it somewhere to get fixed, but honestly I think that if this is the case, then just get a new controller.
Again, I am not completely sure as to what the problem is, so if I got the problem wrong, then please tell me.

I have hooked my wii up to a new samsung 42"

Make sure that you have switched the Wii to component video in the system setting menus. Once you have done that, you should have a color picture in 480p! Hope this helps!

I have my Wii connected to a 2004 40" Samsung HDTV (LCD, projection type) and since we used the Wii Play game ONE time, we have had some 'vertical hold type' problems with the picture, some major color...

honestly id like to help, but have not had this happen to me.

did you try readjusting the color on the TVs menu?

and what do you mean by 'vertical hold type' problems with the picture?

Wii sports games

My Wii Sports disk crapped out on me within the first 2 weeks. I finally got frustrated enough to call Nintendo. They took down my credit card information and sent me a new disk with the stipulation that, if I didn't send the old one back in the provided packaging, they would dun my credit card $16.99. The new disk worked for several months but has now crapped out again in spite of it remaining in the Wii console. Here we go again. Hope this helped
