The chirping has nothing to do with your fireplace or electrical. The Smart Stat II remote is for use on a millivolt system only. The receiver sends out a signal every 15 minutes. If it can't find the hand held remote, it will chirp. The hand held must be within a 15 foot range. There were some issues with the remotes back in 2009, I believe. They were faulty and would chirp for no reason. They were covered under warranty for one year. In my opinion, these remotes are not as good as they should be. A TV remote lasts for years without missing a beat and has a better response rate. I've seen these replaced up to three times a year. At $229 a pop, hmmmmmm. You be the judge. Sorry for the side track. Move the hand held closer to the fireplace. The decorative front that is on the fireplace can also interfere with the signal as the receiver is under the fireplace and the metal front can stop the signal. Either pull the receiver out from underneath and set on the hearth or just pull it closer to the front to keep hidden. Another issue with low voltage systems is dirty connections. If your wall switch or remote just suddenly stops working, try unplugging all connections and reconnect. Being low voltage, any bit of corrosion will prevent it from completing the circuit. Gas fireplaces are not difficult to work on or maintain. Just use common sense. There is a 110v outlet underneath to power the fan and any kind of electronic ignition there may be. So be sure to lock out the breaker if needed and shut off the gas supply. Most electronic ignition systems have a battery backup that will start the fireplace and radiate heat. Batteries should only be installed when the power is lost or they will corrode and be useless. The respective brand website usually have owners manuals and replacement parts breakouts for your review or download. Hope this helps. Crank up that fireplace and stay warm!

There's no quick answer to your problem, as it may be your gas fireplace that's causing the problem. If you still have your Owners Installation Manual look at page # 7 (Trouble Shooting), this should help you solve your problem. If you don't have your Owners Manual, you can download it online from SkyTech's website. If all else fails contact SkyTech's Technical Service Dept @

If you changed the batteries in the receiver (the black box in the fireplace). You should also change the 2-batteries in the hand-held remote. This may sound stupid, but it's not ... be sure all the batteries in the receiver (black box) are all facing the proper direction. Believe me, it's easy to get one turned the wrong direction. Also, make sure that the slide switch is in fact in the remote position. It can be finicky at times. Also, check to make sure that the two wires are still connected firmly at the gas fireplace Control Valve and in the receiver.
When matching security codes, be sure slide button on the receiver is in the REMOTE position; the code will NOT "LEARN" if the slide switch
is in the ON or OFF position. Program the remote receiver to LEARN a new security code by pushing in the LEARN button on the top of the
remote receiver and then pressing the MODE button on the transmitter. A change in the beeping pattern, at the receiver, indicates the
transmitter's code has been programmed into the receiver.
There's a lot to check out and do, but that's how you trouble shoot these remotes.
It may need to be re-synchronized:
ā¢ Make sure the receiver's slide switch is in the REMOTE position.
ā¢ Press and release the LEARN button on the receiver.
ā¢ When you hear the "Beep", press and hold the ON or OFF button for about 2 seconds on the transmitter.
ā¢ You will then hear a series of beeps that indicate that your new transmitter has been accepted by the receiver.
ā¢ If you press the LEARN button on the receiver and you hear no beeps, the receiver is unable to retain any more transmitter codes
(make sure the transmitter battery is properly installed and fully charged).
ā¢ To delete all of the transmitter codes on your receiver, press and hold the LEARN button for 10 seconds. Then you will hear a
series of beeps, indicating that the receiver's memory has been cleared.
It could also be dead after 8 years. A new unit can be purchased here: Skytech Remotes. I would even suggest on of the new styles with a built in timer or thermostat.
