Question about Toshiba MW24FM1 24 in. TV/VCR/DVD Combo

LOSS OF T.V. PICTURE

While watching T.V. (toshiba 24" combo), the picture disappeared, and we were left with a thin vertical colored line on the black background screen. The VCR doesn't work, and the DVD had problems. The volume appears to be fine. The set is only 3 months old, so don't expect problems...Any suggestions? thanks for your help Frank

Mine had been having a lot of difficulty reading DVDs and would just stop (often at the best parts of a movie!). Last week it began having lines down from the top of the screen and my husband predicted it would go out. Today it died... I've bought it 3 years ago, no warranty. Just goes to show, they just don't make em' like they used to.

My television has sound but no picture. I can not program the television because I can not see the screen menu. I also have tried to change the antennae but this does nothing to the picture's reception.

Do you have any ideas to correct this problem. There is no warranty.

Yep it should still be under a warrantee so unhook it and go straght to your freindly authorized Toshiba reair center. If you bought it as is you have a line from side to side then you have a verticle sweep falure and could ber a fault of the verticle output ic or the b+ voltage going to that curcuit. Good Luck

7inch vertical color lines right side of screen all th time

Hi.

This website has the service manual ($7.79) with instructions to diagnose the boards. Unfortunately I am afraid that the problem is not a board but the panel itself.

Thin vertical lines in the middle of the picture mean that the panel is gone. Here an example of lines from bad panel in Toshiba LCD:Line Picture. (discussion: Avsforum). Sometimes the lines can be dark or in bright color.

The panel costs $339 (LCD PANEL ASSY).

Because of the price of the panel, the TV is not worth repairing unless under warranty.

Even if the TV is out of warranty call Toshiba and report the problem. As you can see in AVSforum page above the problem is affecting many users.

If Toshiba doesn't offer special conditions on repair (or discount on new), the TV is not worth repairing. Replacement of the digital board will hardly be a solution.

Only if you have wide bands, scrambled or flickering, then the problem is digital board (main board) or panel. If you have the thin pixel lines, then the panel is gone.

I got multiple thin colors on the middle of the screen

My 3-year old 52-inch Toshiba flat panel TV (Model # 52RV53U, Serial # AM409000295) developed a display issue (purchased Aug. 2008, manufactured July 2008). Vertical multicolored lines appeared on the screen just left of center. The band of thin vertical bars is 5.5 inches wide. The lines are about 1/16-inch wide. They are stationary, always exactly in same place. They over-ride any other picture on the screen (no transparency). They are there all time even with no video inputs to the TV after the unit is turned on. See picture #1. The TV works well in every other respect, but, obviously, it is annoying to watch the picture with the color band blocking about 1/6 of the picture.

I already swapped out the TCON board with no improvement and replugged the TCON board cables with no improvement.

Most likely it is the flat panel tab bond failure (panel made by Samsung). Further updates will be on my Facebook page.

Thin red line across screen two inches for the top. Picture above line is good, picture below line has no color and double image.

Hello,

IF YOU HAVE A SOLID BLACK LINE RUNNING VERTICALLY THEN YOU HAVE A FAULTY MATRIX INVERTER. IF CENTRAL THE MAIN VERTICAL INVERTER NEEDS CHANGED. LEFT = LEFT VERTICAL INVERTER RIGHT=RIGHT.........

ANOTHER WAY TO GET THIS FAULT IS WORN OR DAMAGED RIBBON/PLASTIC GOING FROM THE SCREEN MATRIX TO THE INVERTER

Hope this will help out.....

Picture loss!

It sounds like cold solder joints on the vertical IC chip. Not a major deal. The entire board should be looked over for other joints becoming cold.

Vertical, pencil-thin blue line appears after 10 minutes of viewing (any source)

I would suspect a connection breaking down as the set heats up. A shop will probably have to put the set in a stand to hold it while they check for loose connections or defective components inside. Not a DIY job by any means. If this line went completely through the picture either vertically or horizontally and stayed there then this would have indicated a failure in the Panel itself. A thin Line any where on the screen consisting of one pixel in width is a Panel Failure according to Hitachi.
