Often in an attempt to bargain shop we settle for the off brand of CD selections. Most of the time any CD will do , but in some cases, the drive just wont recognize the disc as burnable media. This may be the case in the problem your having.
I suggest you try a better program. It is possible there is something wrong with your drive, but this sounds more like a silly software problem. If you are SURE you have a drive capable of burning, then try this free program. I have a blu ray player, it stopped working with most bluray discs. Hi, well the short answer is NO. You cannot use DVD's in a CD Writer at all. So the simple answer is to get some CD-R and copy the files to them. OR get a Combo DVD/CD writer and install that as well.. and then you can use both..
