I am trying to install the Microsoft Wmf Redist for MTP Support but the system kicks me out saying that it doesn't meet the requirements! I have Windows XP Home edition

  • Hannah Sible Oct 11, 2008

I bought a Sony Ericsson W380i 'phone yesterday and am having loads of trouble installing the Media Manager. I was asked to download Microsoft Wmf 11 Redist for MTP support and Quickplayer 7. Quickplayer 7 wasn't a problem as you could download it from the PC Suite CDROM that comes with the 'phone. The Wmf 11 has caused more of a problem for me though as I was unable to download it from the Microsoft website or any website for that matter. I have spoken to Sony Ericsson support five times in the past hour and each time they tell me something different. The last lady I spoke to managed to get Technical Support to email me the file I needed, however when they did finally get in touch it was to tell me that the file was too big to send as an email. I went back onto the Microsoft website after having been told to click on Microsoft Updates. I was then told that I needed to download ActiveX control which I already have in order to get rid of a pop up blocker which wasn't there. On searching for the support line number, I was told that they would charge me £46 to call them.

This would be my third Sony Ericsson 'phone. I love their walkmans and was really pleased with the simple Disk-to-phone program that they used to come with. It was simple to download and even more simple to use. I don't know why Sony Ericsson have brought out Media Manager instead but I am extremely annoyed that it is causing myself, my boyfriend and my sister so much trouble.

If anyone can help me with this I would be extremely grateful. I have a Windows XP computer.

    same problem

I have the same problem. If you run a search in XP START,SEARCH, ALL FILES AND FOLDERS and type in the file you require you should find it is on your hard drive and I assume it gets there via the supplied disc that comes with the W380i Sony Ericson phone. Open the file and run it and it installs.

However I have done this and still the Media Manager wont start and throws up an error message along the lines of "Media Manager as encountered a problem and needs to close" Its a pain in the backside to say the least but maybe if you open the file it could work for you?

The version on the disc I got was 1.1 or something like that, Sony have a download on their site under support for the Media Manager and its a different version maybe this will work for you? Again sorry to say it didnt work for me but I will keep at it until I find a solution. Good Luck

If yuo are with Windows XP you should have Windows Media Player 11 or more to avoid this issue with Microsoft Wmf 11 Redist support.
This issue does not appear with Vista.

I have made a disk image, with file extension .wmf, but don't know how to open it and get all the disk data back ??

wrong file extension. if you made a image of the OS it should have been a .iso this is burnable and easy to open with winrar or a dvd burner program for image burning.
The ISO file type is primarily associated with 'ISO-9660 CD Disc Image'. A literal dump of the data on the CD, byte-for-byte. The data is stored in the ISO-9660 format. IsoBuster can interpret these files directly.

The .wmf file type is primarily associated with 'Windows Metafile' by Microsoft Corporation. Microsoft graphic format. Xara X is a good program to edit this file type if you don't have Microsoft tools. There are several versions of a Metafile; each having a different header structure.

Microsoft updates do not install

You have not said which OS you are using so; from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144

When you try to install Windows updates from the Windows Update Web site, the Microsoft Update Web site, or by using Automatic Update, you receive a message that the update is not installed successfully. Additionally, the update is not displayed in the update history.

You may experience this issue in the following scenarios:

Scenario 1 You try to install updates after repair a Windows XP installation by using the Windows XP CD.
Scenario 2 You perform the following operations before you try to install Windows updates:

You perform a new installation of Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2).
You visit the Windows Update Web site, or the Microsoft Update Web site.
Note When you visit the update Web site, the latest version of Windows Update software will be installed in your computer.
You install Windows XP Service Pack (SP3) without a restart.
You try to install Windows updates after the install of Windows XP SP3.

Then cause ;

This issue occurs because the Wups2.dll file that is included in the latest version of Windows Update is not installed correctly.

For scenario 1, the registry entries that correspond to the Wups2.dll file are missing after the repair install of Windows XP. The release version of Windows XP does not contain the Windows Update software.

For scenario 2, the registry entries that correspond to Windows Update are changed back to the Windows XP SP2 version if you did not restart the computer before you install Windows XP SP3. The registry entries for the Wups2.dll file are changed to pointing to the Wups.dll file that is included in the release version of Windows XP SP2.
To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods;

Method 1: Download and install the Windows Update Agent,
For an x86-based computer; http://download.windowsupdate.com/WindowsUpdate/redist/standalone/7.4.7600.226/WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe

For an x64-based computer http://download.windowsupdate.com/WindowsUpdate/redist/standalone/7.4.7600.226/WindowsUpdateAgent30-x64.exe

Method 2: Register the Wups2.dll file,

To have MS register the Wups2.dll file in Windows for you, go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144#FixItForMeAlways.

If you prefer to fix this problem yourself,

To register the Wups2.dll file in Windows, follow these steps:

1. Stop the Automatic Updates service. To do this, follow these steps:
a. Open the Command Prompt window. To do this, click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
b. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
net stop wuauserv

2. Register the Wups2.dll file. To do this, follow these steps:

a. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
regsvr32 %windir%\system32\wups2.dll

Note For a computer that is running Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
regsvr32 %windir%\syswow64\wups2.dll

b. Click OK if you receive a verification message.

3. Start the Automatic Updates service. To do this, type the following command at the command prompt, and then press ENTER:
net start wuauserv

4. Exit the Command Prompt window. To do this, type exit at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.

I installed fifa 11 and when i try starting the game i get error e001 ... when i try to run fifa 11 i get an error message saying E001.how to fix this ...

Error e001, starting the game fifa 11

Most probably your video card does not support "Shader Mode 3 or higher".
Get a better video card.

What are your system specs? Have you updated your graphics card driver and installed the latest directx redist. In the fifa11 zip file there is a redist folder, make sure you install everything in there as well. Also, try updating your sound card driver, it may be conflicting.

Take note**
Chipsets used in models
NVIDIA GeForce 7300, 8100, 8200, 8300 und 9300,
ATI Radeon HD3200, HD4350 and
Intel/S3 do not satisfy the hardware requirements.

Hope it helps.
