After the error does it give you the option to continue?... just because Windows XP hasn't DEEMED it worthy for you to use, doesn't mean it's not a perfectly good driver

I bought lenovo G550 last week. It came with Windows Vista. I want to install Windows XP on it. I have found that lenovo has driver for windows XP so that will make my life easy :-) But when I try to...

you are most likely getting a BSOD with a stop error code of 0x0000007B which is caused by the Windows XP CD that you are using doesn't have the SATA Hard Drive controller driver needed to recognize and utilize the hard drive. If Lenovo has XP drivers for this model then they should have a SATA driver (roughly 394k) that will need to be loaded FROM A FLOPPY DISKETTE during the boot to XP. (XP Requires the driver to either be slipstreamed into the CD or loaded from a floppy diskette. Trying to load the controller driver USB or a different CD will not work)

you may have incompatible ram. You can try running Memtest on the application that will test the PC ablility to read and write to all the channel and sectors of memory. Also did you try both slots?

Every time I put in new memory in get a beep code error

Although your machine lists up to 2GB of RAM memory, what they don't tell you is that in most cases, you need to have a 64 bit version of Windows installed to utilize the additional memory. Odds are very good that you have 32 bit version of XP installed. Try installing just 1 stick of 1GB and leave the other slot blank and see if the machine will boot.

Computer saying error loading operating system

You can configure your boot setup from your bios screen (for dell, either F11 or F12) then set up your optical drive as your 1st priority then, save settings. After that, you need to insert your windows XP cd in order for it to boot.

inform me of what happened after you have done this.

Upgrading the OS Windows XP not possible

Upgrading from OS Windows XP:

you can upgrade from Windows XP to Windows Vista(ultimate, premium, home, business.......),
you have to buy a Windows Vista CD and install a fresh copy or format.

Some Minimum Requirements:

i) Min 2GB RAM or atleast 1GB RAM(if you have>1GB RAM installation of Windows Vista will not continue)

II) External Graphic Card. for some versions of Windows Vista(to run Aero Interface, special feature only   in some versions of Windows Vista)

NOTE:

"Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor" is a software from Microsoft which you can download from internet, this  can help you determine which features and edition of Windows Vista will run on your computer.

i.e., when u load this software on windows xp it will suggest which upgrade version of windows vista          will suit your system(based on you system configuration. or hardware components.) and then            you can install the upgraded version of windows xp(mostly windows vista home,.........)

Thanking You

Wow, what version of Windows tells you that?  Sounds like an old version you should ignore.  Seriously, if it can't explain its problem properly, and checking whatever error code it gives at TechNet (Microsoft's) then it doesn't deserve your bother.
