I bought this fridge about a year or two ago from Sears. I just noticed that it leaks at the back. I do not have a manual as Sears did not provide one. Is there a tray that I am supposed to empty.

the water on the floor will be from the overflowing reservoir at the back of the fridge. i would suggest buying a syringe ith at least 20ml capacity usually you can get them from hardwear shops, and use it to emty the tray at the back. Make sure that the pipe leading from the drainage port to the reservoir (drainage port is located inside inside of the fridge at the back) is sitting inside the collection reservoir and not hanging over the side causing the puddle.

I have a kenmore fridge model # 596.69952012 and it is just 2 months over the one year warranty. The fridge isn't cold and the freezer is just cold enough but will quit in a few weeks since a repairman...

Hi Jodi -

First, we at FixYa are volunteer experts so to speak - like that guy down the street that can fix a TV or car. There's a bunch of us with all different areas and levels of expertise. We may even work for companies that make or maintain some of these products - but we're not official representatives of those companies. We can't offer you anything other than help fixing or getting something fixed. With that said...

A fridge 2 months out of warranty does sting - especially when the cost to repair exceeds the the replacement cost. Leaking coolant isn't supposed to happen especially from a location that it isn't subjected to damage (or anywhere for that matter) , but defects in materials, workmanship, etc. can and do occur. That's where the warranty comes in. It's provided by the manufacturer to give you peace of mind in your purchase - knowing that you're protected from that sort of thing. You had nearly 14 months of trouble-free service and 12 months of which were covered. The duration of the warranty may vary by brand, model, etc. and many stores and even third parties will gladly sell you additional coverage (because most times, the manufacturer's quality will far exceed the warranty. No one provides a warranty to protect from handling or abuse - at least not without charging a premium for it.

You could see if the repairman would say that the leak was so small, that it had to have begun prior to the warranty's expiration. He may or may not be able to do this for you however.

You called the Sears store and didn't hear what you wanted. Try calling their corporate customer service group. If they tell you it is out of warranty - ask them what they would do for you, a long time, loyal customer. Talk to the manager if needed. Be polite, but firm. Don't get you hopes up tho.. they will likely be polite - and just as firm, too. You might be on the hook for a new (or used) fridge. If you're unhappy with Sears - and you told them over the phone - back it up with your wallet and buy a non-Sears brand - elsewhere.

Good luck!

You can put a fan blowing on the condenser coil and see if this helps.

Freezer only cool, fridge not cold as well

it sounds like the relay on the back of the unit may have gone bad.or the compressor has a leak in the line...call a tech out and have it checked...it may be cheaper to get a new fridge

AEG fridge/freezer isn't working

This sounds like your fridge has a leak somewhere and it slowly discharged its refrigerant. the compressor can sustain damage when there is no refrigerant and often will hum and eventually fail. Sorry but you may need a new compressor - if you were going to replace the fridge soon anyway then i would go ahead, but a compressor and the labour to fit it etc may be cheaper than a new fridge - you need a refrigeration repair man/shop (if you can take the fridge to a repair shop it will always be cheaper than calling a guy to your house) Sorry i can't really help, but the symptoms are classic, if you are lucky then a technician may be able to fix the leak and restart the compressor, but not always if you want to try something yourself just try tapping the compressor smartly but not too hard with the end of a dry wooden or plastic stick or similar with the fridge plugged in. the compressor is the thing at the bottom in the back that looks a bit like a small fuel tank, should be right in the middle and will be the largest thing in there. Just be careful not to break any copper tubes or touch any wires. Sometimes a stuck compressor can be freed this way, but you will almost certainly still need the leak fixing and a refill of refrigerant. Sorry about the bad news :( Hope this helps :)
