Ps2 damage i took apart my ps2 and put it back together right , okay , when i turned it on, the menu looked different , you know when it loads up that blue and purple thing spining around , well it spins around at start up but 2 seconds later it just goes to a big blue dot , my ps2 was NOT acting like this before i had taken it apart , so do you think i should get a new motherboard or just check the wires and stuff? please reply if you can help me. thanks.

It looks like you damaged your PS2 firmware, if this is the case you will need to have it reflashed at a sony repair centre.
Check if connectors to video and cold solder joint to video output are ok, test capacitors and resistors for continuity, using a multimeter, see if you find some cap that has blown, that will be luck.
If you do not find anything, it means that you have damaged some of the ICs, probably by touching the board with bare hands and causing electrostatic discharge on IC contacts.
This can be fixed only at a Sone repair centre.
Ask to retailer or call the number listed on the PS user manual, if you are lucky you can purchase an extended guaranty for $80 and have it fixed for free for the next two years, or if the PS is less than one year old you can use your current factory guaranty.
Call Sony and ask.

PS2 "Slimline" Can not read disk?

the problem I had is my ps2 slimline wouldn't play ps2 games. so I went on line and followed instruction took it all apart cleaned everything nothing. put it back together, for some reason I openned the ps2 where the disk goes there you can see the eye, I took a small flat heat screw driver the ones you use to fix eye glasses, and put it under the eye assembly and so gentle pushed it up. now it works perfect. not to hard you don't want to break it, I didn't even see it move. Hope this helps

Ps2 trouble loading

Hi DanDancooke,

I believe your PS2 is extremely dirty and full of dust and lint. It needs to be opened up and cleaned out throughly.

I hope your in the right posting area, this is for the Phat PS2 consoles with the drawer that comes out to put the CD in. Procedure is different for Slim PS2.
  1. Disconnect power and turn the case upside down.
  2. Remove the screw covers to expose the case screws. These are little square pieces or square rubber pads. You can use a thin knife blade to pry the hard plastic squares up.
  3. Remove all the screws.
  4. Remove the Warranty sticker to the right edge of the power socket.
  5. Turn the PS2 over to set it right side up.
  6. lift the top cover from the back and pull it forward slightly to clear the CD tray. Be careful of a possibly Ribbon cable attached to the lid going to the Reset/Eject buttons. Roll the cover over to the right leaving the ribbon intact.
  7. Remove the CD tray lid.
  8. Polish the Laser lens, and remove any lint or hair from the CD area. Use Alcohol and cotton swabs to clean the laser lens. By the way, Alcohol will damage a PS2 Slim lens. All lens are not created equally.
  9. Hook up the power and A/v Cables.
  10. Remove the little white disc from the CD tray lid.
  11. Place a Disc on the spindle, and cap the disc with the little white piece that you removed from the CD tray cover.
  12. Boot up the PS2 and test it, Continue cleaning until you get it to work.
  13. Put it back together, and you’re in business.
If you have trouble you can send your PS2 to a Repair shop. Click on "Repair Directory" at the bottom of this screen. then choose "Video Game Consoles". Then you pick a Good Repair shop. My shop is listed, but I cannot divulge the name in this forum. Cost will be $25 plus shipping. Shipping is usually $8.95 to the USA

PS2 won't work, red light comes on, buttons don't respond

Sounds like the ribbon cable is ether damaged or not in the slot all the way.. that clicking sound you hear is common after extended use, all mine make the same sound ..try opening it up one more time and check the ribbon ends i know it's a pain but might be worth your time. pulling them out too hard can damage the ends.some time's putting them they seem like there in all the way but it might not be in straight.REMEMBER BENT FOLDED FLAT CABLES = problems.

if it reads the silver ones it should read the other i would have said change the laser but as you have done this i could be that it has over heated and their is no way of curring this have you tried playing the blue ones on another ps2 if this is not the problem then their is nothing you can do other than sell yours for spares or buy a broken one you can get them off ebay cheap as you no your laser works usually the one people sell that dont work is the laser so you could put the laser into the one you buy then you should have no probs sorry this isnt nothing else you can do
