The printhead is the part that moves back and forth. It is stopped electronically. There are no "stops" per se. What does the part look like? If everything works properly, it could be a forien object, that is, something that was not actually part of the machine.

Where is the lever that releases the carriage on the olivetti 32

There is a chrome lever on the right side of the carriage on top that should manually release the carriage by pushing down on it. If this works but there is no spring tension pulling the carriage to the left, then the drawband is probably broken. If pushing the lever down doesn't work then eithor the mechanism is broken or locked up or there is a carriage lock that need to be released. If there is a carriage lock it would be located under the carriage on the left or right side. It would be a small chrome lever sticking out the side.

The carriage of my typewriter isn't moving. I can move it manually but it doesn't do it automatically when i type, or press the space or tab buttons.

Does it feel like there is some spring tension pulling the carriage to the left? If not the drawband or main spring is probably broken and will need to be replaced. If you move the carriage all the way to the right, you should be able to see the main spring housing under where the carriage was. You should be able to rotate it by pushing it towards the left unless the cord is still attached. If the cord isn't attached you will be able to see where it should attach to the housing. There will be a notch. The cord goes under the carriage and attaches under the carriage on the right side on a little post that stick down. If the cord is broken or missing you can use a strong little cotton cord or heavy nylon (fishing) line.

I have a wheelwriter 300. when i hit the tab key, after just turning on the typewriter, the carriage moves only as far as hitting the space bar. if i hit it again, it jumps about 2 inches and then stops....

Put a little shot of WD40 on both sides of the the silver shaft that the carrier slides on if that doesn't do it some WD40 on the carrier motor bearings. The front one can be reached from inside the T/W
the rear either you must remove the case or fish the straw tru the case. The motor is in the R. rear corner of the T/W.

Platten not moving when keys and space bar struck. There is a cord @ back connected to a spool now broken and unconnected which appears to be the only thing not working

Possibly the brawband for the carriage has broken but you can replace it with some nylon cord.
First wind up the spool for about four turns before connecting the cord to the underside of the carriage at right end.

Underwood no. 5 typewriter doesn't advance when hit keys

the cord is shaped much like a shoe lace, and these make great replacements, a spare clip can be fashioned out of a paper clip, it's not a precision part. the spring if broken can be replaced with any clock style spring, i bought a wind up kitchen timer at the dollar store (same for the shoe lace) and took the spring from that. for $2.14, got mine working good as new

Printer just beeps and carriage wont move.

No...you may have broken wire or wires in the cable harness that runs from the carriage unit down to the PCB. The cable/carriage will have to be relaced if they are broken.
