I have external (powered) speakers hooked to the audio out jacks, but the sound is very weak. almost nothing is going into the subwoofer. I have already changed the bad capacitors responsoble for the black screen problem, and the picture is fine now. I am quite capable when it comes to electronic assembly, but lack knowledge in circuit theory. Is there anything I might be able to change or fix, to possibly boost the audio output of these jacks?

Having browsed the user manual I wonder if you plugged in the Sony BDV T57 Home Theatre System while the Polaroid FLM-2632 tv was powered down via the optical cable .
Then powered up the Sony BDV T57 Home Theatre System first and then powered up the Polaroid FLM-2632 tv
Maybe the Polaroid FLM-2632 TV has to detect that the Sony BDV T57 Home Theatre System is connected and powered up when the Polaroid FLM-2632 powers up. To activate its digital audio out ????
The note part about only being available only under HDTV (cable/air) mode. Might be the cause of your hassle also ?

You need to test the audio output of the television on another sound source like the dvd or vcr player or fm tuner. If you find the sound work on these outputs. The problem you are having is with the television tuners audio reception. If you are not getting audio output from any source. The problem you are having is a complete failure of the audio circuits in the television. You can call Polaroids customer care service at this telephone 1-866-289-5168. Give them the model number of your television and tell them about the loss of audio output in your television. They will be able to tell you how you can obtain service for your television. I hope this information helps you with your problem
What it sounds like is wiring inside to the speakers got disconnected.
Does the TV have a jack for headphones or external speakers? If so,
then I would connect something to see if you get sound. If you still do not have any sound, then your audio outputs may have fried.
