Question about PC Desktops

When i switch on the power for my laptop, i can hear that the cpu is starting to boot, but they screen remains black, as it was before i switched it on. ive tried to switch the laptop on after inserting the reboot disk but it doesnt work. i dont know if my screen is internally broken but there are no cracks or dents. i have thought about taking it to a repair service but some rip you off, and lie that your cpu is dead and to buy another. thanks

Sony VGC LA3. Computer switches on ok and green light is on but screen remains black. When the monitor screen is pressed the screen comes alive for a couple of seconds then turns black again

Go to start, control panel, power options and see what your time are when the laptop is plugged in and when it on battery.

Do that and let me know what you find.

I will watch for your reply.

I was given an emachine T2742, I turned it on and it worked for a little while and then went off by itself. I can hear and see the fan running. It will not come on but will continue to try to start. ...

After running can you feel any heat around the CPU heatsink? Does the CPU fan run at all?
Is it trying to restart and then looping back to reboot?

Try to access the Bios (press Del as soon as it switches on) see if you can get to the bios screen, see how long it will stay in the Bios screen before switching off or rebooting. If the bios has a hardware monitor, see what the temp of the CPU is. 30 degrees to 40 degrees is normal

Then switch off, unplug the Optical drives, the hard drive and floppy drive in turn, try to reboot and see if it is stable with just the hard drive installed.

IF the CPU heatsink remains cool after all that, the issue is with a dead CPU or a blown component on the motherbiard

Make sure the power supply switch on the back is set to 115v, its normally a red switch but could be black.

Once you do that see if you can turn on the computer and get video.

If not then with the computer turned off, take out the memory sticks and reseat them one at a time in each slot one at a time and try turning on the computer to see if you get video. If you still don't get video then try taking out the CPU and reseating it back into its socket properly. At the same time make sure there is no dust or dirt on the cpu or in the socket.

Try again and see if you get video. If you don't get any video this time then disconnect everything and only have power going to the motherboard. If you do this and you still don't have video then the motheboard is bad and would need to be replaced.

My DC5000 SFF turns on okay then switches off randomly Help!!

Which fan are you referring to? As far as I know the fan in the power supply runs at the same speed at all times. So if that is the fan you are hearing it may indicate that the power supply is failing. The power supply may be over heating and shutting down. I would try a different power supply if you can get your hands on one.

Motherboard shuts down before booting !

You should clarify this a bit more, but please make sure all of your fans are plugged in and the no jumpers are set to over-clock the processor. Also, double check that everything is fundamentally compatible.

If you are a technician, please take it to the service center. This may be a fault because of failing power supply section in your laptop/ faulty, loose RAM.
