Question about Zoom Wireless-G 4410 (44100000) 802.11g/b

1 Answer

Security I have installed the software and connected the adapter. My router has security and I was expecting the adapter to ask for the password and code to connect but instead it has its own security settings. How do I get it to connect to my router?

I've seen a few of these lately. Does the radio network icon appear below the clock?

I dont know how to change my security settings from WPA to WEP.

Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link. http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.15.1 or http://192.168.2.1 If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it. Then it ask for user name and password. Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank. Then you can see configuration page of router. If you are still not able to access router with above ip then you need to RESET it for that press RESET button for 10 seconds it is in back side of router then all settings defaults..Then you can access it with above method. . Then click on wireless->wireless security->WEP security there is code password note down it or enter new password then save setting s and restart router. then you can connect wireless with new password. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.

Try changing the channel of the wireless to 11. Default channels get interference from landline cordless phones.

Here are the settings that I suggest that you also consider:

Wireless Router

It is usually easiest to run the install wizard, but be sure to be ready to set the items listed below.

Things to set:

Note: Routers are intended to be set by geeks. You have to SAVE EVERY page, or the changes will be lost. A geek knows this (apparently). The router gives no protest...just dumps your changes.

1. Login password (RECORD THIS!!). Consider taping to bottom of the router. Physical access is not the security issue.

2. Set a recognizable system ID.

3. Invoke wireless security of at least WEP.

a. Assign your own access code, 10 digit home or cell #. Consider taping to bottom of the router. Physical access is not the security issue.

4. Check that your router is set to broadcast its' presence.

To get that information you need to log in to your router's control panel. To access that you need a computer (Any Windows Computer) to be directly connected to your router via a CAT5 (Ethernet) cable. If that means you have to move a computer closer to the router, do it. Otherwise you won't be able to retrieve the information.

Once connected via a CAT5 cable, go to Start>Programs>Accessories>Command Prompt. Type in: ipconfig
Press ENTER to execute the command. A list should appear with a few IP Addresses listed. You want to locate the IP Address associated with the, "Default Gateway."

Now open your Internet Browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Etc...) and type the IP Address associated with, "Default Gateway" into your Browser's address field. DO NOT add www. or .com. Now press ENTER or GO as if you wanted to visit a website. Your router's control panel should appear.

Now you will need to log in to proceed. If you do not know your default user-name and password try googling your router's model name/# adding, "default password" at the end. Example: Linksys WRT54G default password. If the default login/password doesn't work you're going to have to call the company that made your router and ask them for assistance in resetting your router's login username and password.

Once you managed to log in to your router's control panel, find the Wireless Security region. Just browse around if you have difficulty finding it, as long as you DON'T change settings you won't hurt anything.

Once you find the wireless security region you should be able to pull information on the encryption type (WEP WPA), the channel (1-12), and the security key. If for some reason you need to, change the encryption type, channel, and the passphrase for your convenience, feel free to do so. However once you find the wireless security page you have all the information you need to connect your wireless adapter to the router.

Should you still have difficulty connecting, try changing the, "Wireless Mode." Sometimes, "Auto" doesn't work and you'll have to try different modes.

I hope you get the problem resolved.

Forgot security key/passprease

the security passkey or passphrase will be found on the router user interface. if you are also using a linksys wireless router...you can try this out..

1. open internet explorer...type 192.168.1.1 on the address bar and hit enter.
2. it will ask you for a password, default username and password for a linksys router is username - nothing, password - admin.
3. go to the wireless settings tab and wireless security tab then look for the password.
