Is there a light on at the power button on your monitor...if not then there is a problem with the power cord but if the light is on then it could either be your monitor sttings are set to dark or you connection cord is faulty

Under display settings, it's best to use default theme like vista or xp theme. You can also go to screensaver, then power options and set how long it takes for monitor to shut off. I also recommend updating the video card drivers.

Try shining a flashlight on the screen, or without the flashlight, try to see if you can distinguish anything on the screen at all, if you do, the backlight is dead, or the monitor has an internal most likely unfixable problem.

Monitor goes blank less than a second after turning on.

Monitor is bad for sure. Try another known good monitor on your computer and if the problem stops then you know for sure the original monitor is bad. Hope this helps.
