Question about HP PC Desktops

1 Answer

I am running Microsoft Word 2003 and have an HP 1320n printer. My problem is that when I print more than 1 copy the pages do not collate even if the collate box is ticked in the print dialogue book and so the copies have to be collated by hand which is time consuming. My IT colleagues tell me it is a known incompatability and cannot be fixed. I wonder if this is true.

Not what I wanted to hear but thank you very much for the help

Dear Bubbabear64 - this is my office set up but I couldn't accept that my IT experts had purchased a product which doesn't meet my needs as time is more precious that initial cost but it seems that is what has happened. We are not even supposed to go online to "unapproved" web sites so this is why I am seeking an answer from my home computer. So as I don't have a copier networked to my computer it looks as if I am facing hours manually collating long documents but at least I know now to lobby for another type of printer which is very helpful rather than having to accept that it's an incompatibility problem. Thank you very much for your help, however - I appreciate it. kaspkav

HP 1320 print driver is a universal print driver covering several printer models.  Collating only works on HP printers if you have a multiple exit tray system for commercial based laser printers similar to finishers on a copier.  They have to have room to keep the copier together before they can be collated.  On a standard configured 1320 there lacks any space for finishing tasks.

The bottom line is it isn't a printer designed with a finisher on it.  Do you have a copier in your office networked into your computer?

Hi,
The problem could be caused due to blocked printer nozzles or bad print head. Try cleaning the ink nozzles first.
1 Press Setup.
2 Press 5, then press 1.
This selects Tools and then selects Clean Print Cartridge.
A page of patterns is printed. The print cartridges are cleaned. Recycle or
discard the page.
If copy or print quality still seem poor after you clean the print cartridges,
replace the print cartridge that is affected. For information on replacing
print cartridges, see replace the print cartridges.

When I try to print something off the internet, I get a bunch of stuff like <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "..//W3C/DTD HTML 4.01 TRANSITIONAL//EN"...

Hi Minnesott,

Printing from websites are never easy. If a webdesigner anticipates that someone may want to print a page he puts up a link that says printer friendly version. Web pages are essentially ment for viewing not used for printing. That said you can try several things and see if any of them work for you:

1. Click on view on the top menu in internet explorer
2. click on encoding
3. first choose western European windows and print the page if that don't work try Unicode utf-8

Your best shot would be selecting the entire content of the page by highlighting then pasting it in Microsoft word and then printing it from ms word.

HP is coming out with new range of printers which support webpage printing to a very large extent. you may want to consider that for your future upgrade.

Cheers
Keshey

PCL XL error Subsystem: KERNEL Error: Illegal Tag Operator: 0x23 Position: 713 when printing multi copies on Kyocera Mita Laser

FIXED: PCL XL error when printing to a HP printer

I fixed this problem by installing the KB948046 Hotfix from Microsoft (thanks to Brent Follett from forums11.itrc.hp.com for pointing me in the right direction).

To download and install this hotfix, search for “hotfix KB948046” or go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948046 and click on “view and request hotfix downloads”.

You will be prompted for an email address, the URL for the hotfix together with a password will be emailed to that address.

Install the hotfix and reboot the system. The problem was fixed for me at this point.

I tried to print before rebooting, but that did not fix the problem, a reboot is essential.

More information:
I encountered this problem on a HP 2605 (laserjet) printer (HP2605) that was shared from a Windows Small Business Server 2003 with Service Pack 2 (SBS SP2).
When printing from networked machines the error was printed out on the printer. After installing the KB/948046 hotfix on the server only and rebooting the server, the problem was fixed.
I also installed other updates on the server before installing the hotfix using Microsoft Update.

If you don’t have a website yet, visit http://www.set8.net and if you have a website list it on http://www.searchourworld.com

I hope you found this useful and this fix works for you. Happy Hunting!
