Question about HP Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I am running Microsoft Word 2003 and have an HP 1320n printer. My problem is that when I print more than 1 copy the pages do not collate even if the collate box is ticked in the print dialogue book and so the copies have to be collated by hand which is time consuming. My IT colleagues tell me it is a known incompatability and cannot be fixed. I wonder if this is true.

Not what I wanted to hear but thank you very much for the help

Dear Bubbabear64 - this is my office set up but I couldn't accept that my IT experts had purchased a product which doesn't meet my needs as time is more precious that initial cost but it seems that is what has happened. We are not even supposed to go online to "unapproved" web sites so this is why I am seeking an answer from my home computer. So as I don't have a copier networked to my computer it looks as if I am facing hours manually collating long documents but at least I know now to lobby for another type of printer which is very helpful rather than having to accept that it's an incompatibility problem. Thank you very much for your help, however - I appreciate it. kaspkav

HP 1320 print driver is a universal print driver covering several printer models.  Collating only works on HP printers if you have a multiple exit tray system for commercial based laser printers similar to finishers on a copier.  They have to have room to keep the copier together before they can be collated.  On a standard configured 1320 there lacks any space for finishing tasks.

The bottom line is it isn't a printer designed with a finisher on it.  Do you have a copier in your office networked into your computer?

I have a MFC7860DW, How do I set it to collate copies?

You can download the manual from here: Reference page 24: "Collate With the Collate check box selected, one complete copy of your document will be printed and then repeated for the number of copies you selected. If the Collate check box is not selected, then each page will be printed for all the copies selected before the next page of the document is printed."

Why do multiple copies sometimes staple together as one set instead of multiple sets?

I don't know how/why, but if you set the Print settings (main print screen) to non-collate and the Printer Properties (clicking in to get to the staple option) to collate, it works correctly, stapling each set individually.

How do you run a page count report? HP Laser Jet 1320N

Configuration page
The configuration page lists current settings and contains a status log report.

To print the configuration page from the printer, press GO for 5 seconds, until the yellow light comes on, when the printer is in the ready state.
NOTE Make sure that you hold the GO button for less than 10 seconds.

Is there a counter for pages printed on my 1320n

No, the page count is not on the test page. You need the configuration page. Press the GO button and hold for 5 seconds. The yellow light will come on and you can release.

LaserJet 5Si printing slow use to be able to hit the print key then the printer would fire away. seems like the printer pauses between pages then prints maybe 3 to 4 pages per minute

Could be software. I have seen the last several Adobe latest version documents take several seconds to print. I have also seen increased print times with MS office 2003 Powerpoint documents. If it is a single page MS Word or Excel document and u are printing several copies of it, you should turn off the collate feature for printing of that document

Excel Print Queue Delay Problem

It has to do with your collate settings on your printers properties and the collate settings on your first print screen that shows up when you go to print. First when you are ready to print select print from the file menu in excel then go to the properties of the printer you are going to use and make sure the finishing properties are set the way you want them. Hit ok then you will be back at the first print screen. Here uncheck the collate box and then print. I am unsure but this may work. I had a similar problem a while ago and I know if I played with the collate check box it would print much faster other wise each time it was going to print a copy of the document it had to resend all the information again to the printer, which took forever.

Xerox Phaser 7300DN will not collate

Try using the PCL driver from the Xerox website, rather than the Postscript one supplied with the printer.

I had the same problem and installing the PCL driver solved it.
