I think you will find your TV has a USB socket in the back, plug in a USB memory stick. To be able to store a number of programmes you should get one of at least 8GB. But a smaller one would be sufficient as a test. If it doesn't recognise the USB stick you may have to format it with a computer, and format it to FAT32, as the TV may not work with NTFS.
Thanks for posting to Fixya and it is my pleasure to guide you.

In addition to connecting via SCART, you should connect the aerial cable from the wall socket to your VCR/DVD Recorder and another aerial cable from the VCR/DVD Recorder to the TV." Also; "Check the DVD is a region 2 disc - to change the region of the DVD player, refer to section 'Changing Regions'.

You can not record to a DVD, according to their manual. That is why you get the no disc error. It does not have the play sector at the beginning of the DVD. You can record to USB Flash Drive however.
USB RECORD - DIGITAL/FREEVIEW MODE Built into this television is a USB record facility. This function is available in Digital/Freeview mode when used in conjunction with a compatible USB memory stick or USB Hard drive. The benefi ts of this are as follows: • Pause live TV/Radio and then playback, fast forward and rewind (up to live TV) • One button record, if you decide you want to record the current programme • Easy programmable recording from the 7 day TV Guide • Record TV/Radio and watch/listen back on your computer/laptop Due to the nature of the product, it is necessary to use a high speed USB memory stick (as the TV reads from and writes to the memory stick at the same time, some memory sticks may not be suitable). You can purchase high speed memory sticks from some computer stores, alternatively, we have a selection of tested and compatible memory sticks available to purchase directly from the helpline/web site. These are available in 4GB, 8GB and 16GB. (Please check the web site/helpline for latest specifications and prices). End Quote

#1 Insert your ( memory card , flash disk , cellphone , .... ) into your computer. #2 Open up 'My Computer'. You should see it under the list of available drives. #3 Check its contents first to make sure that you have the right drive. #4 In 'My Computer', right-click on the drive and choose 'Format'. #5 Leave all the options as they are and click on 'Start'. This is a non-reversible process so make sure this is what you truly wanted to do in the first place. #6 Once the process is completed, take the memory card out and insert it into your Digital Camera or any other device. Try to browse to it to make sure it works fine now.
usually hard drive failure boils down to files not opening succesfully, or a random internal failure, not a physical issue with the hard drive, however because dish network repairs these issues on a large scale the fix is to wipe the software and start over which means all recordings are lost, unfortunately recovering these recordings is basically impossible... if you often record things which are imperative to your business i would suggest getting a 622/722 dvr which will allow you to download these recordings to an external hard drive via usb, you will have unlimited use uploading and downloading programs for a one time fee of about 40$
