Hello,

My usb memory stick had very important documents on it, however it is not being read by my computer. I have tried to insert it into 3 different computers and I have the same problem. Can it be currupt? How can I retrieve the files?

If it isn't working on three different computers, it's probably corrupted.  If you can't see it on you drive listing under computer, then it's going to be tough to retrieve to documents.

Where on my dell inspiron/1200 do i insert sandisk

Do you mean an 8GB SanDisk USB flash drive (thumb drive) or memory card (SD card or another type) or another SanDisk product?

If you have a flash drive, plug it into one of the 3 USB ports on the back of the laptop. If you have other devices plugged in, you may need a USB hub to add ports. (Note: hubs can fail; try a direct connection if the unit doesn't communicate.)

If you are using a memory card, you need to add a memory card reader. USB card readers are available from many shops; they will be cheaper from some online vendors compared to the big box electronics stores. Get one that supports the format of your memory card. There may be PC card slot card readers but I'm not aware of any specific models. The Inspiron/1200 supports Type I or Type II CardBus devices; 16-bit PCMCIA cards are also supported.

If you have a different item, please add a comment giving more informatiion on which SanDisk product you are connecting to the computer. I hope this helps.

Restart the computer. If you are already in Windows, you can do this from the Windows Start menu, go to Turn off computer and click Restart. As the computer restarts, watch for a progress bar at the bottom of the screen. press F8 about once every second. Immediately press F8 before the progress bar reaches the right side of the screen. From the Windows Start-up menu, highlight Safe Mode and press Enter. My pen drive is not showing file system ( fat 32 etc..), what can i do? and how can I format the my Kingston 64 GB and 40 GB drives

Sometimes when a flash memory stick or USB external hard drive fails because it was not removed from the USB port properly. If the device is removed by just pulling it out of the USB port, it can cause the flash device to fail, you must click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon on the Task Bar and select the device you wish to remove and only do so when instructed to do so.

When the flash memory USB hard drive device appears to malfunction it maybe possible to restore it by reformatting it. Insert the flash or USB hard drive into the USB port then Click on Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management.
Then right click on Disk 1 removable drive and click Format. After the flash drive has been formatted it will indicate that it is Healthy.

You need to format the flash or external drive. Format the drive as primary drive and in FAT32. (FAT32 will allow data to be exchanged between MACs and PCs) also between XP/Vista and earlier versions of Windows.
Insert the flash or external hard drive into the USB port then Click on Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management.
Then right click on Disk 1 removable drive and click Format. After the flash drive has been formatted it will indicate that it is Health.

Memory stick duo reads full but it is not really that full

There is a reserved amount of unused space that is required for files used to run it.

Think of it this way,A blank disk will show nothing.Add a one word document and write protect the disk,It will show the disk is full,Even though you know it only has one word written to it.

Please rate this a fixya
