Iv just downloaded xp to my toshiba equium l40 and i have no sound i need a sound driver where can i download one for free

Try to search for the XP Drivers for your Laptop or Return the OS to Windows Vista, some Toshiba Laptops does not have XP Drivers if downgraded from Vista to XP.

Most likely the drivers for the sound card are not installed, or the sound is on mute.

you can get the drivers from the above link, and as for the mute, you should have a speaker icon on the bottom right corner of your screen where you can check if its on mute, if you don't have a speaker icon its a different problem, possibly the drivers are not installed.
