When i start up my acer aspire 5515, the power button turns green, and the screen is black. the lightbulb and the battery lights are on, but my screen is black like if its turned off, i tried unplugging battery and the power source and holding in for 30 seconds, i took the back cover off, and the fan off, i blew air into the fan and the coils, i have it hooked up to a second monitor right now, and whenever i turn my laptop off i hear the monitor turn off, and i can't login, i wait for it to start up, which doesn't take long. I'm dualbooting xp and vista, so it sits at the "choose your OS" and its automatically at XP, so i wait for it to start up, i put in my password and hit enter, and then i try pushing FN+f5 to switch to the other monitor, but nothing. i don't get the windows chime when you login, pressing f8/f12/f10/f2 doesnt work, and i've tried pressing the caps lock button before i login, and the caps lock light doesn't turn on, can someone help me?

SOURCE: My Acer Aspire one won't turn on.

I also have this problem with my Acer netbook.  I have only had it for 4 months and am in Turkey on an extended break at the moment.  I have taken the netbook to a dealer here and have been told the problem is the motherboard, verified by Acer themselves.  I am not happy with this as the netbook was not cheap and there appears to be a few Acer models with the same problem

SOURCE: Acer Aspire 5920 will not boot at all...

The power button may not work, that is most common in laptops, or you have a short.

SOURCE: Toggle Between Laptop and Monitor

Fn + F5 toggles the display output, the trick here to wait each time you hit this combination because it goes through several options. Hit it once and it may want to go to just the external, then both the laptop screen and the external. etc. Now Fn + F6 turns the backlight bulb off on the internal monitor to save energy. Now I am giving up the link to your service manual, it is in PDF format so you can make a copy for yourself and keep on the laptop, print it or save it to a flash so you can reference it later. I believe if you take the keyboard off and disconnect the video lead on the left side where the display plugs into the motherboard, then when you power the laptop back up it will default to the external cord and you can use the laptop without any switching. That is what I am doing with an Aspire 5920 that I am rebuilding. Good luck, ParrotHead PC Repair
Just copy and paste the link below to you internet address bar and hit enter.

SOURCE: I turn on my Acer Aspire 3050 and get a power

If you do have the devices displayed on screen when you start it ..before getting to windows screen ..and this blank screen only gets after ..It may be a windows error ...and reinstalling it or running the recovery partition will fix this ..It may be related with the updates for video card ..made auto ..and installed a wrong driver or setting ..(unsupported ) ..If this is the case try to turn it off by unplugging ..and will give you the boot mode screen ..where you should load safe mode..If you manage to load it in safe mode just reinstall the video driver for it and it may work ..
Another case it may be a damaged display screen or damaged wiring or the inverter for it ..(in this case you should check and see what s wrong and change the inverter if it is the case..Basically you will have just shadows on screen and miss the back light )..
anyway ..try to see if it starts to bios at least ..and if it does..it is just a corrupted windows and need to be reinstalled from scratch and will work ..
If it does not load windows either bios settings ..but still opens and looks blank ..(this I assume it does not mean it do not open ..but opens and shows an empty screen ) You may see the cause for not loading BIOS ...the cmos may be damaged or the battery for it empty ..and you will need to reinstall Bios ..
Usually if it is a damaged video card will not open at all and make some beeps noises ..so this may be excluded..So ..it is either the operating system ..or the wrong driver for video ..(and wrong ..unsupported setting ..and in this case will even load windows but you can not see it pass the windows logo ..and you should hear the log in ..
Or it may be something wrong with the ram memory and in this case is explainable if it does not load bios settings ..To see about this..just open the back lid for ram memory ..and remove them ..and place them back one by one ..and try to boot up each time ..If it shows devices and loads at least bios ..with one ..it means it works ..check them all and eliminate the faulty ones..Try several times to press them in the slot ..cause sometimes just do not make a good contact and nothing wrong with the modules physically .

Acer aspire 5515(laptop) screen is black turns on screen stayscompletly black...no acer logo nothing just a black screen. power button comes up green u can hear the fan and harddrive start up

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LED flashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faulty inverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow my instructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen

I have an Acer Aspire 5515 laptop. My computer will turn on but it shows a black screen. I've tried turning it off and back on again. Removing the battery but it hasn't helped. Any suggestions??

Wow this is tuff,
Setting from keyboard, possibly.
Software, not likely.
Video Card, possibly.
LCD Screen, very likey.
But with no screen you options at home are limited.

There is a setting on laptops that allow you to send the video output to an overhead projector and cuts the laptop screen off. However, when you re-boot it usually defaults to the screen.

I betting on a screen failure. You may want to take it to a PC Repair shop. Or, buy one here,

Acer aspire one power button comes on but screen doesn't come on.

1/ Take a close look at the display in bright light; can you see anything there? (If so then the CCFL (or its power supply) needs replacing on the display
2/ hook up an external monitor and see if that works (or at least if the light stays green on the monitor)
3/ Any boot beep? any "Windows sound"?
4/ try removing the battery and (using only external power) see if it starts.
4/ remove the battery AND the external supply, hold the power switch in at least 30 seconds. Hoojk it up again, try it.

Acer aspire 9300 laptop

Right click anywhere on the desktop, open the screen saver tab, click on the power button at the bottom. You'll see a box that reads monitor, set this to never. That should take care of the screen shutting down. As far as the orange light, I'm guessing that's the battery light, and it's time for a new battery.(It should be green and flashes orange when the battery no longer works properly)
