SOURCE: My Acer Aspire one won't turn on.
I also have this problem with my Acer netbook. I have only had it for 4 months and am in Turkey on an extended break at the moment. I have taken the netbook to a dealer here and have been told the problem is the motherboard, verified by Acer themselves. I am not happy with this as the netbook was not cheap and there appears to be a few Acer models with the same problem

The power button may not work, that is most common in laptops, or you have a short.

Fn + F5 toggles the display output, the trick here to wait each time you hit this combination because it goes through several options. Hit it once and it may want to go to just the external, then both the laptop screen and the external. etc. Now Fn + F6 turns the backlight bulb off on the internal monitor to save energy. Now I am giving up the link to your service manual, it is in PDF format so you can make a copy for yourself and keep on the laptop, print it or save it to a flash so you can reference it later. I believe if you take the keyboard off and disconnect the video lead on the left side where the display plugs into the motherboard, then when you power the laptop back up it will default to the external cord and you can use the laptop without any switching. That is what I am doing with an Aspire 5920 that I am rebuilding. Good luck, ParrotHead PC Repair
Just copy and paste the link below to you internet address bar and hit enter.

FN+ F buttons are used as a shortcut. For example, in my laptop, F1 button has a ? icone at the bottom. when a pres Fn+F1, it will launch the help program. F1 to F12 buttons have different shortcuts.

If you do have the devices displayed on screen when you start it ..before getting to windows screen ..and this blank screen only gets after ..It may be a windows error ...and reinstalling it or running the recovery partition will fix this ..It may be related with the updates for video card ..made auto ..and installed a wrong driver or setting ..(unsupported ) ..If this is the case try to turn it off by unplugging ..and will give you the boot mode screen ..where you should load safe mode..If you manage to load it in safe mode just reinstall the video driver for it and it may work ..
Another case it may be a damaged display screen or damaged wiring or the inverter for it ..(in this case you should check and see what s wrong and change the inverter if it is the case..Basically you will have just shadows on screen and miss the back light )..
anyway ..try to see if it starts to bios at least ..and if it does..it is just a corrupted windows and need to be reinstalled from scratch and will work ..
If it does not load windows either bios settings ..but still opens and looks blank ..(this I assume it does not mean it do not open ..but opens and shows an empty screen ) You may see the cause for not loading BIOS ...the cmos may be damaged or the battery for it empty ..and you will need to reinstall Bios ..
Usually if it is a damaged video card will not open at all and make some beeps noises ..so this may be excluded..So ..it is either the operating system ..or the wrong driver for video ..(and wrong ..unsupported setting ..and in this case will even load windows but you can not see it pass the windows logo ..and you should hear the log in ..
Or it may be something wrong with the ram memory and in this case is explainable if it does not load bios settings ..To see about this..just open the back lid for ram memory ..and remove them ..and place them back one by one ..and try to boot up each time ..If it shows devices and loads at least bios ..with one ..it means it works ..check them all and eliminate the faulty ones..Try several times to press them in the slot ..cause sometimes just do not make a good contact and nothing wrong with the modules physically .
