Hi, when did this symptoms start on your PC? after a windows system update?
Try to remove your present explorer with its previous version... try a rollback of the system to a time before you had this problem. Did it help? Leave me some feedback. Good luck and bye.

Ever since upgrading to Internet Explorer 8, I find that I cannot print emails, open up many attachments, and retrieve other information. For example, if I click on a link, I get the following message:...

Ther are known conflicts with Vista and IE8 - particularly with Vista 64-bit.

I would suggest uninstalling IE8 and reinstalling IE7 or using an alternative browser such as "slimbrowser" (excellent program) or similar.

IE8 can be uninstall by using Add or Remove Programs module in Windows XP, but in Windows Vista, Windows Internet Explorer 8 is not considered to be a ‘program’. Instead, IE8 is categorizing as an ‘update’. Thus, users will not be able to find Windows Internet Explorer 8 in “Programs and Features” of Windows Vista.

To uninstall Internet Explorer 8, go to Control Panel, and click on Uninstall Programs link or Programs and Features icon. Then on Tasks pane on the left, click on View installed updates link. Locate and select Windows Internet Explorer 8 in the list of installed updates, and then click on Uninstall button. Click on Yes when asked that are you sure want to uninstall the update.

If there is no option of IE8 been found on “Programs and Features” or “Add or Remove Programs” dialog box, or uninstallation of Internet Explorer 8 is unclean (causing error message such as setup cannot continue because a more recent version of Internet Explorer has been detected on this computer when trying to downgrade to IE7), try to manually run the spuninst.exe.
To do so, go to C:\WINDOWS\ie8\spuninst\ folder (your drive letter may be different), and run spuninst.exe.

Restart the computer after uninstallation completed.

Hope that helps :)

Oregon trail 5th edition vista

Hi,
Please check the compatibility of the game with Vista, and am not sure if this compatible at first place. Secondly you can run programs or games in XP mode by right clicking on the exe file of the game, goto properties and select compatibility, and then select to run in XP mode. Hope this helps

Setup.exe has stopped working

If you are trying to install an older or possibly incompatible piece of software, you should:

1.)Navigate to the installer program (setup.exe) in Windows Explorer (My Computer).
2.)Right-click on it and choose "Properties".
3.)Choose the "compatibility" tab.
4.)Check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" box.
5.)Choose Windows XP (if you get to the end of these instructions and you get the same error, come back to this point and choose Windows 98).
6.)Click the "Ok" button at the bottom of the window.
7.)Go back to Windows Explorer (My Cmputer), and try to run the setup.exe again by double-clicking, or right-clicking and choosing "open".

Com surrogate

These should help:

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/fix-for-com-surrogate-has-stopped-working-error-in-vista/

http://www.superbdevelopment.com/forums/general-tech-talk/3600-windows-vista-com-surrogate-has-stopped-working-fix-solution.html

http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/06/13/how-to-fix-com-surrogate-problem-when-opening-video-format-files/comment-page-1/

Error message: "COM Surrogate has stopped working."

COM objects are often defined in Dynamic Link Libraries (DLL files). The Program file for COM Surrogate is actually dllhost.exe that can load a DLL and make its objects available to other programs.

The COM Surrogate error message is often related to codecs and other COM objects that aren't fully compatible with Vista. These are installed by other programs. The most common culprits are DivX and Nero. The first thing you should do is upgrade to the latest versions of these to see if that fixes the problem. Another possible fix is to disable thumbnail previews in Explorer. To do that:
In Windows Explorer, click Organize, then select Folder and Search Options
Click the View tab
Check the box that says "Always show icons, never thumbnails"
Click OK
To help troubleshoot which codec(s) might be causing the problem, you can use a free tool called InstalledCodec. You can use it to disable individual codecs one at a time.
You can download it at http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/installed_codec.html

Hope that helps

I'm always being alerted that Com surrogate has stopped working

This might help:
Disable Thumbnail Previews in Windows Vista Explorer If you want to speed up browsing around in explorer, you might think about disabling thumbnail previews in folders.
To make this change, click the Organize button on any folder, and choose Folder and Search Options from the menu.
image%7b0%7d%5b1%5d.png
Click the View tab, and then check the Always show icons, never thumbnails checkbox.
image%7b0%7d.png
Click OK, and you're done.

There are lots of people also pointing this problem to Divx, Nero and general codec packs but the problem starts when they start using a media player not windows explorer.

Give it a go and if it helps please rate me.

Cheers

Windows explorer has stopped working

Hey there

The problem could be because earlier version of nero You can solve your problem from doing the following:
If you are using Nero, you can try upgrading to the latest version (7.7.5.1+)
If you’ve upgraded Nero and still have the problem, you can try renaming the file C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\DSFilter\NeVideo.ax to NeVideo.ax.bak. You may also need to rename NeVideoHD.ax to NeVideoHD.bak
This will break Nero Showtime, however.

There's another possible solution below of turning off DEP for dllhost, which might not work your windows explorer.
Essentially, turning off Data Execution Prevention on dllhost (the COM surrogate or windows explorer) can fix this problem. This solution is detailed below.

Right click on Computer, and choose Properties

Click on Advanced System Settings, and then under Advanced, click Settings

Select the "Data Execution Protection" tab, and then click “Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select”

Click on the Add button, and then browse to C:\Windows\System32\dllhost.exe

Click Open, and then OK.

Windows Vista Compatibility

What you need to change is your screen resolution to either 800 x 600 or to 1024 x 768 (in your desktop settings)
What is happening is that your Lexmark all-in-one center doesn't think your monitor can handle the program (or something to that effect).
You will NOT have to restart your computer either.
Just restart your Lexmark All-In-One program and you can start scanning.
