Question about Projection Televisions

1 Answer

I just bought a used Mitsubishi WD-73727 DLP TV. After watching it for about an hour or so the set turned itself off and the Lamp LED came on red. Going through the diagnostics, I got a code 34 (Abnormal Lamp). I'm now thinking I have a burnt-out lamp. I reset the TV and in the following morning tried turning on the set. It powered-up with no problems and seems to be running fine. Of course, I only had it on for 5-10 minutes. Is it the lamp? Should I replace it? Could it be something else, since the TV came back on? I got a REALLY good deal on it and if I have to spend $200 for a lamp I'm still ahead. If it's something major, I want to return it ASAP. TIA!!

    Tim,

Thank you for your advice. When I contacted the seller, I was told that a new lamp was just placed into the set. I'm declining to keep it and will trade it out for something else.

    Thanks again!

    Bests,

There are a few things that could cause this. The lamp is the most common but I have seen some other werid thing cause this problem (ballast and engine) changing the lamp would be a good way to "shotgun" the repair but if you want to know for certain you will need to call someone out that can troubleshoot it the right way. Good luck and if you need any more information please let me know.

Thank You
Tim

No check for bad capacitors on Power supply board they will be vented swollen or puffed up on top.
Go to Encompass Parts Distribution and look up your Model number.

Mitsubishi DLP overheating

Mitsubishi has problems with the thermal sensor going bad. They extended the warranty for several sets. The sensor is right by the lamp. Call mitsubishi and insist they do something for you. If you keep playing your set, the bulb could also be at risk. I would think your set is covered being a 62" set. Good-luck and be sure to act ASAP.
