You can install a generic screen and pick one up on ebay for around £60 but there is known difficulties with switching to a non-dell screen (Issues with brightness) so it is always best to stick to genuine Dell screens.
LCD displays have a florescent light, if doped the light may be broken, further there is a support pc board in the unit that produces the high voltage for the lamp, this may also be at issue check the lamp first because it is the easiest first step, then with a meter you can check to see if the voltage is present at the lamp, if not this pc board can be purchased and replaced
Why do you need to replace the whole screen? Have you worked out exactly what is wrong? The screen may have a faulty CCFL lamp or a faulty inverter, replacing these is cheaper than replacing the whole screen.
