Question about Televison & Video

6 Answers

I have a magnavox model # 32MF23ID and serial # BZ2A0628360393. It was manufactured July 2006 and purchased during xmas holidays 2006. It started with the tv going blank on oncassion. But now, the tv comes on for approximately 20 - 30 seconds and then the screen turns into a sheet of green(no picture-all green) with regular sound of the program in the background.

There is no fluctuation. You see a clear piture for 20-30 seconds then it blanks out in all green and the sound from the program continues as if the picture were visible.

  • gbynoe Sep 10, 2008

Check the convergence. That is what controls what you see in teh screen & it always burns out.

Pure Green Screen is the lost of bias on the control grid of the Red and Blue gun. Spotty green around the edges means you need to converge or demagnetize your CRT. You can adjust the screen and drive variable resistors (pots) located on the circuit card around the neck of the picture tube. If you remove the antenna signal and if all controls are equally set, you should get a Black & White snowy picture or at least adjust for that. Remember, there is Very High Voltage around that area. Proceed with extreme caution.

Also, You can demagnetize your TV by using one of the bulk erasers that the
Radio shack sells. Start from the middle of the screen, circle the
eraser counter clockwise motion all the way to the border of the screen
in the pull out position, repeat this procedure for a few times. If the
problem is still exist, check the distance of the sub to your TV, must
be at least more than 8 feet, if not move that big monster further away
from your TV. After you do this and still have the problem, your TV
tube is damage and need to be replaced. You will have to consider
either to repair or buy a new TV whichever way is more cost effective.

    Thanks

This seems to be a convergence problem; very common for all kinds of projection systems.

The boards mentioned in the reply you referenced should be the right ones. Replacing the board usually solves the problem, but without actually seeing the set I cannot be 100% sure of it. So, you have some risk by just replacing the board and then finding out the problem is somewhere else.

Maybe you should do some testing and checking first to pin it down a little more certainly. Obtaining a service manual would be helpful because it has further detail on how to check convergence, etc. and would give you a better confidence level as to what is going on.

Some have repaired the convergence by replacing the IC chip set. They dissipate alot of heat and sometimes just burn out. Replacing them is cheaper than replacing the whole board, but it requires a high level of skill in soldering and general electronic hardware.

If you have sound and no picture it can be a broken lamp, or a bad light engine.

Sorry, I can see this is an LCD, not a DLP TV,

On LCD you have a sound board separated from video controller.
It can be the ribbon cable or the connector not well connected to board or LCD screen, or the video board must be replaced.

This is an LCD, it has no convergence board, see if it sensible to whack , hit tv gently on the sides and see if picture comes and go, if it does, then it is a connector, if not it is either a bad cable, a bad connector , or a faulty video pcb.

That is not a CRT or a DLP tv , there is no convergence.

what you need to do is testing some component like parts U401~U405, U407, U409, U301 you follow a diagram to identify the bad part, then replace it using a solderer and paste in the right way, not to blow the ICs.

What you probably need to do is calling a technician for a home repair, you can use the phone number listed in the user manual.

Here you get all parts for your TV, get a service manual first if you want to do it yourself:

    After you test the connectors,
This are probably what you need to test.
Better to buy an extended guaranty and call repair service, calls start at $80.

Well,, probably the capacitor controlling the picture must have stopped working...do you see anything like fluctuation of the image on the screen or it just blacks out....

replacing it will solve your problem..

The video you inserted here shows nothing but a blank screen. Its back-light inverter board should be checked. There is no back-light now. If you wish to get more details, check this site linked below. Pull up older posts there. Check the site with patience, as it has over 2350 posts now. It was produced July 2009. The first digit of the serial number tells the year, 9 = 2009, and the next two numbers describe the week during that year it was produced, 27= Week of July 2-7th, 2009.

Salutation TrudyK,

Great question! First think to know is that if you are getting your programing from a cable or satellite provider a digital converter box would not be needed. These services are not being required to change their signals. If you use rabbit ears or an antenna a digital converter maybe required.

Looking at the specifications of your televisions they all appear to have analog tuners which would need digital converters to receive the new digital broadcasts.

Thankfully the FCC does have a program in place to offer coupons to assist in purchasing the new converter boxes.

For more information on the digital transition and coupon programs BestBuy.com has a FAQS, wuizzes and tutorials available at http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=pcmcat120600050013&type=category

Daylight saving time issues

I picked this up from the Emerson Website Read below before going to the link. Try thi link: and poke around the website http://www.fox-international.com/emerson/ Important Notice About Daylight Saving Time (DST) and Emerson SmartSet® Clocks and Clock Radios Congress recently passed a new Energy Bill which includes a provision to extend Daylight Savings Time. At the beginning of 2007, Daylight Savings time will begin on the second Sunday in March and end on the first Sunday in November. Because of this change your SmartSet® Clock or Clock Radio will need to be updated. In order to set your unit we will need the following information from you: 1. Model Number You can find your model number on the back or bottom of your unit. (Click here for an example) 2. Serial Number You can find your serial number on the back or bottom of your unit. (Click here for an example) Based on this information we can identify which setting is necessary to adjust your unit for compliance with day light savings. There are three possible groups your SmartSet® Clock or Clock Radio could fall into: Group One changes the time zone to a previous time zone. Group Two adjusts for the spring and fall settings. Group Three is already set for 2007 daylight savings compliance. Group identification begins with your serial number. The first three to four digits of the serial number represent the year and month of manufacture. (If your serial number begins with 0607, that would indicate July 2006, 506 would indicate June 2005.) Models manufactured before January 2006 (serial number 506, 512, etc.) will follow Group One settings. Models manufactured between January 2006 and July 2006 (serial number 0601, 0603, etc.) will follow Group Two settings. Models manufactured after July 2006 (serial numbers beginning with 0608) are Group Three and do not require any changes. If you believe you have a Group One model, please click here. If you believe you have a Group Two model, please click here. If you cannot determine which Group your model may be in, please call us at 1-800-526-7521.
