Bios update problems P4S800-MX

Hi Please could you help me update bios my current version is

Manufacturer : American Megatrends Inc.
Version : 1002.003
Date : 09/01/2004 (mm/dd/yyyy)
Address : 0x0 on 512 KB
Copyright : (C)2002 American Megatrends, Inc
DMI Version : 2.3

I have installed the latest beta 1011C.002 driver extracted the files but its a exe file and i cant open it. I have looked on Asus website help forum it says download it to floppy which i have i i have formatted it but when i run EZflash ALT+F2 it just says P4S800MX not found on floppy. I have changed the file name to P4S800MX.ROM and P4S800MX.BIN has explained on Asus website and in the manual but i keep getting the same message P4S800MX not found on floppy. The problem is i have just bought this P4S800-MX motherboard off ebay i have installed it and everthing o.k I have also installed a new hard drive, i have used the E-Machines discs to download windows XP home edition that come with the pc. When i try to download service pack 2 and restart i get the windows logo screen then a please wait screen then i get a black screen, ive waited for 30 mins plus but still the screen remains black. I shut down at the plug and the only way to get back in is through safe mode which i then restore my pc to another date. It then boots up fine but with no service pack 2 on. I have read on Microsofts website that issues may lie with an older version motherboards wether this is the problem i dont know, hence why i want to install the new Bios, i have tried the Asus update utility ran that get bios through internet then bios from file and at the end of the process when you highlite the newest bios file it comes up with no info. Please be gentle has i am no pc expert. I also cant get any sound ive downloaded and installed the latest sound driver version 3.59, but still no sound is it a duff motherboard? Any help would be great.

I did see on one website today that when you format your floppy tick start in DOS mode i did that booted up pressed ALT+F2 it did start doing something but stopped after a while prompting me to type something, but i had no idea. So still no joy.

An .exe file isn't a .rom file. You downloaded the flash program (the program used to flash new data to the ROM), you didn't download the flash data. Look on the site again, or look to see if there's another file - P4S800MX.ROM - to extract.

BIOS of ECS L7VMM3 mobo..

You'll need to enter the bios menu. As soon as you hear a single beep press the Delete key on you're keyboard. See the top of page 27.
Open Advanced Chipset Features than find and open
VIA OnChip PCI Device, Page 39
Set VIA-3058 AC97 Audio to [Enable]. Save you're changes and exit the bios. When your system restarts you should have audio.

What is your file format? FAT32 wont detect much Space. Try NTFS if not using. You should get the bios update on the site of manufacturer.
