I just changed the water filter and now the water will not dispense? I can hear what I think is the pump but no water?

After you changed the water filter and then you were to depress the front dispenser to get water the humming sound that you are hearing is the water inlter valve located at the rear of your machine. You would have to pull the unit out away from the wall to locate the valve. Before you do this did you with a empty cup depress the water lever on the door of the machine for about 3-4 minutes? When you remove the old filter you also take the water that is filled inside the filter out which when you plug in the new filter it will take a couple minutes of depressing the water lever to get the water to flow to the filter then it leaves the filter and goes to the water valve. When it goes into the water valve it then splits where one line carrys water to your icemaker and the other carrys water to the water dispenser on the door. If after the 3-4 minutes you dont have water pull the machine away from the wall and remove the line from the inlet valve that comes from the filter then have someone depress the lever on the front door which would tell you if you had water going past the filter. If you do have water going past the filter to the valve then you would disconnect the line that goes to the water dispenser and see if you can get water to flow out of that nozzle as well. If water is not flowing out of the valve then you would either try to clean the small screens which sometimes get clogged with calcium deposits or you would have to replace the water valve itself. If you have any further questions message me back. Thanks
Rick
p.s also if you have no water going to the ice maker you can remove the front cover on the ice maker and use a jumper wire and jump from L to V which would also activate the water valve immediatley

Inside filter water dispenser suddenly stopped working. New filter removed and no working with or without filter . Water line is fine. Ice maker works.

Your water line could be frozen in the door. You can disconnect the line under the unit before it goes into the door at the bottom hinge. Push the dispenser button and see if it comes out there. If it does leave the door open till it thaws. Covering the opening with a blanket will prevent the loss of cold in the freezer. . GE makes a heater that will prevent this from happening again. The part number for this heater is WR49X10173.

disconnect the line to the water dispenser at the water inlet valve on the back where the water supply comes in and try the dispenser. if you hear the valve work but water doesn't come out, the valve is bad. If you don't hear the valve, the dispenser switch is bad

Ice & Water Dispenser Suddenly Dysfunctional; LED lights, too!

Cory, you sound like you have a bad water valve as well as a bad control board for your dispensor. If you've had any storms in your area in the past 4 - 6 weeks, it's very possible that the storm took both parts out.

We have parts for GE as well as mots other major brands, so please give us a call with your complete model number and we will get your parts out to you right away!

We hope this solves your problem and we look forward to being able to assist you with future issues.

Have a great evening.

I have a friend with a Whirlpool ED5PHAXMB00. It's producing ice, and dispensing ice, but no water will dispense. She changes the filter evey time the light comes on, so am thinking it's not that. Have...

Some refrig's , water goes to filter first , some thru water valve first and then the filter . On this model , it goes to the water valve first , then the filter .
1) never change the filter just because the light says to . Only replace when icecubes get small or when water flow from dispensor slows . A filter can last 6 mths- 1yr. and sometimes longer .
2) the resevoir is in the refrig section , behind the lower crispers
3) the water valve is probably the problem

Side by side Frigidaire. The water dispenser

The water inlet valve on the back of unit opens when the ice maker needs water. If the valve doesn't seal good because of sediment or wear it will continue to drip and when the water reaches the ice maker supply tube it will freeze blocking the tube.. You can take the water line off the valve and watch to see if it drips.

Your water line could be frozen in the door. You can disconnect the line under the unit before it goes into the door at the bottom hinge. Push the dispenser button and see if it comes out there. If it does leave the door open till it thaws

Not making ice

Hi: Change or just remove the water filter first. As your water dispensing slowed that is a clue. If the water filter is that clogged it will cause a problem with the ice maker. Plus the water you drink is not filtered anymore. City water is being run through 2 years of crud. If you don't replace it just remove it. I hope this helps, Jeff

In my GE Performance refrigerator side-by-side Ice is being made, but no water is dispensing. The GE Smartfilter is atleast 5 yrs old (I never used/never changed) because we always bought water from...

The water that goes to the door actually is routed through the hinge on the freezer door. Take a look and see if you can't find where the tube comes out and goes into the water dispenser. I bet it has come loose and is rerouting the water down the side of the fridge and onto the floor; hence the puddle.

Also, just because you don't drink the water doesn't mean you don't drink the water! If you use ice from the ice dispenser then you ARE drinking the water. The water that feeds the ice trays comes through the filter, so you might consider changing it every 6 months rather you use the water dispenser or not.

Hope this helps, I have one too and its causing a different set of problems...

Ice maker not getting water after changing filter

Check the following:
Is the freezer door closed completely?
Is the ice storage bin installed correctly?
Is there ice in the storage bin?
Has the ice frozen in the storage bin?
Is ice stuck in the delivery chute?
Has the wrong ice been added to the storage bin? Use only
cubes produced by the current ice maker.
Has the ice melted around the auger (metal spiral) in the
ice bucket?
Dump the ice cubes and clean the ice storage
bin.
Is the ice dispenser stalling while dispensing “crushed”
ice?
Change the ice button from “crushed” to “cubed.” If
cubed ice dispenses correctly, depress the button for
“crushed” ice and begin dispensing again.
Has the dispenser arm been held in too long? Ice will stop
dispensing when the arm is held in too long. Wait 3 minutes
for dispenser motor to reset before using again.

The ON/OFF switch is located on the top right side of the freezer
compartment.
To turn the ice maker on, slide the control to the ON (left) position.
To manually turn the ice maker off, slide the control to the OFF
(right) position.
NOTE: Your ice maker has an automatic shutoff. The ice maker
sensors will automatically stop ice production, but the control will
remain in the ON (left) position

REMEMBER:
Allow 24 hours to produce the first batch of ice. Discard the
first three batches of ice produced.
The quality of your ice will be only as good as the quality of the
water supplied to your ice maker. Avoid connecting the ice
maker to a softened water supply. Water softener chemicals
(such as salt) can damage parts of the ice maker and lead to
poor quality ice. If a softened water supply cannot be avoided,
make sure the water softener is operating properly and is well
maintained

The Dispenser Lock (on some models)
Your dispenser can be turned off for easy cleaning or to prevent
unintentional dispensing by small children and pets.
NOTE: The lock feature does not shut off power to the product, to
the ice maker, or to the dispenser light. It simply deactivates the
dispenser levers. The ice and water dispensers will not work.
Style 1: Press the LOCK BUTTON to lock the dispenser. Press the
UNLOCK button to unlock the dispenser.
Style 2: Press and hold the LOCK OUT button to lock the
dispenser. Press and hold the LOCK OUT button a second time to
unlock the dispenser.

No water but ice is fine

remove the filter and reinstall , it may not have seated into the filter housing it will take a little while to fill the filter cartridge as you hold in the water paddle

you also may have a water valve problem, something in the water valve that goes to the water in the door that is not allowing the water to come through the valve

Icemaker - Plastic

If the pieces of plastic are smaller than the inner diameter of the water tube then you should be looking at the filter washers on the tap and where the water line fits onto the valve assembly behind the fridge. If the filters are clear, the problem is within the ice dispenser. Remove the ice bin and inspect the shroud where the motor coupling pushes onto the auger behind the bin. The auger could be off centre and chaffing the plastic away. Otherwise, check the ice maker fingers for damage.
