Slow Printing, Print Times Too Long, Processing Between Pages, First Page Out Times Too Long

Phaser printers are rated on a page-per-minute basis. This encompasses print engine speed only, and does not take into account processing time or file transfer rates.

Total print time is affected by many factors, some of which are listed below:

    • Image complexity
    • Image size (amount of coverage)
    • Collation from the software application
    • Number of non-resident fonts used
    • Type of port used and network traffic
    • Printer's memory configuration
    • Resolution/print quality settings set at the host or the printer front panel
    • Media type(ie: paper or transparencies)
    • If the printer model supports job pipe-lining

    Check the Driver Settings
Driver settings may have an impact on total print time. From the platforms listed below, check for correct driver settings.

    • Macintosh: the driver defaults to binary data. This is recommended.

    • Windows 95/98/ME: check printer properties. Under the Postscript tab, click the Advanced button. Ensure the box Use Automatic Data Format is checked. This automatically selects the correct data format for the connection method.

Note: The information above applies to printer models prior to the Phaser 850 and Phaser 750. These print drivers have the driver set correctly by default.

    • Windows NT: change the output protocol. The Adobe driver must be installed before changing. Once this driver is installed, go to printer properties and select the Device Settings tab. Locate the selection for Output Protocol and change from ASCII to Binary for a network connection, or from ASCII to BCP for a parallel connection.

    Collation
Collation from a driver level allows the printer to process a print job once and then print N copies, where N is the number of copies selected by the user (ie 5 sets of a 10 page document = 10 processed pages).

Application collation requires the printer to process every page of the document N times (5 sets of a 10 page document = 50 processed pages). To avoid collating from an application level, ensure the collate box (see figure below) is not checked when in the print dialog box (ie selecting file/print).

The printing speed slowed to a snail pace. I pressed Setup, 2, and then 6 to print a self-test report. I got a a "cartridge error" message. Then I removed both cartridges and cleaned them. Still...

This is caused by the failure of one of your cartridges. Remove the black cartridge and print a test page. Does the printer print at normal speed? Is so the black cartridge was the issue and should be replaced. If not then put the black cartridge back in and remove the color cartridge and print test page. If the printer now prints normal speed the color cartridge was at fault and needs to be replaced.

My hp 6110 printer is printing at the pace of a cripppled snail.

What resolution are you printing at? There is a setting on the printer itself that you can hit for instant copies or when you select print setup from the computer, go to the printer preferences and you can set the quality of the print from that window.

Xerox Phaser 7750

There is a motor in the laser called the polyogon motor, It turns the mirrors in the laser.
It most likely is not starting fast enough. The laser isnt that hard to remove. But if it has failed, it is pretty expensive.
Let me know if you want to attempt to pull it.

Sounds like you might have the wrong, or old drivers loaded.
Go to the HP site and download and install the latest drivers for your printer.

PRINTING ERROR

Solution --> ERROR 0082" name="Note" /> Phaser 790 / DocuColor 2006 Printer's: Cancel print job and cycle the printer's power

  • On the printer's Control Panel, press the Cancel Key (12 KB).
Note: The READY message may only appear briefly. You may need to keep repeatedly pushing the CANCEL key.
  • If the error message persists, turn the printer off for at least 30 seconds and remove the computer interface to the printer (17 KB) before turning the printer back on.
  • Use the menu keys to perform a front panel reset (under RESETS menu).
  • If the printer redisplays the error message upon reboot, a file is likely STUCK at the front of the print queue. Use the front panel RESETS menu to CLEAR LOGS AND QUEUES, which will delete all print jobs in the printer's disk spool.
Note: The READY message may only appear briefly. You may need to keep repeatedly pushing the MENU key to gain access to the front panel menu.
  • If the front panel menus can not be accessed turn the printer off for 30 seconds and then turn the printer back on.
  • If it is known which print job was last sent to the printer, try to reprint the last job spooled, which may be the cause of the error. Step 4 on clearing logs and queues may need to be repeated to eliminate the crashing job.
Note: Most XX82 or XX1E front panel error messages are NOT hardware related, but caused by a specific print job or application.
