Question about Dell Inspiron 6400 Notebook

1 Answer

Please help I've tried everything on my 6400 Dell laptop to keep the wifi light on, FN f2, no icons for the function key...network connections, etc. Any idea why I can't keep my light on or connect even when I reboot? Thanks so much in advance.

I just received a Dell Inspiron 640M PC Notebook (used) without a manual.

I have a wireless router that I use for my Dell (home) PC and that my children when they are home do not have any problem connecting to with their various PC and MAC notebooks. I have no idea why my new notebook won't automatically connect. I see that there is a blue function key and a blue wireless tower on the F2 key and a WIFI light. I am not sure if this is how you connect but by pushing the two keys the light does not come on. I am not a computer genius and I have no idea how to connect this computer to the internet using my (Trendnet) wireless router.

Please help in layman terms. Thanks!

Did anything change before this problem? Can you go to a previous restore point before you had this problem? >programs>accessories>system tools>system restore... go back to an earlier restore point.

Hi Sir / Mam,
I have 2 Questions?

Are you able to connect to Wireless? How about the Wired connection?
Try to update the Wireless drivers.
Also check if the wireless is getting detected in BIOS and Network Adapters in Device Manager.Apart from the wireless are all other lights glowing in the cluster.
If yes get the light assembly changed.

After installing new hard drive i cannot fine how to connect to internet through wi fi

  1. Try pressing the Fn key and then the F2 key on your keyboard to turn on Wifi, the yellow Wifi symbol should light up on your laptop.
  2. Click the network icon in your system tray, this should display a list of available networks.
  3. If that doesn't work, then re-install the Drivers from the CD you were provided with when your received your laptop.

Hi

have you had a look on or around the keyboard for a wifi switch it could be a slide or push switch
with a picture on or beside it that looks like a mini satallite dish

have you done all the windows updates

and ii the FN+F2 keys is not working maybe you could try a system restore back to when it was working correctly for you

go to
start
type in system restore
then maybe tick show more restore points
and find one that you think might of been when all was working good

good luck

Hello. where exactly is the button on the dell latitude d410 that activates the wifi? thanks.

On Dell laptops usually the wireless is not a hardware switch but a hotkey combination. On most moels (your too I think) it should be Function + F2 to toggle wireless on or off.

My Dell Studio 1737 states that it can not connect to wireless internet. I need to enable the wireless connection by a button in the front that I can not find or a combination of functions keys that I also...

Press the Fn key. While keeping it pressed, press F2 key. This combination of keys will turn on the wireless. You can use the same key combination to switch off the wireless also. When the wireless is turned on the wifi light glows to indicate it is on.

How to download wifi driver for asus eee pc series

victoria_999 --

Press Fn + F2

"Fn" stands for "function", is located at the bottom-left portion of your keyboard.

If you notice, the color of the wifi icon is different than the letter keys... the color should match the Fn button

This will turn on/off your wireless adapter :)

Hope this helps!

My Dell Inspiron E1505's wireless switch is off.

This happened to me using a Dell Inspiron laptop. The wireless switch was disabled and the answer was supposed to use both the blue Fn and regular F2 function key to enable wireless connection. I tried Fn and F2 together and it did not work. I tried just F2 alone and it worked.

Fn+f2

fn+f2 means your pressing two keys at once
the function key (fn - usually a different color - maybe blue - than the letter keys) and the f2 key

hold down the fn first then the f2 - look for the fn on the lower right or left next to Ctrl keys
