Question about HP Pavilion dv9000z Notebook

Won't power up

My laptop won't power up.  It tries to power up, then stops and makes a hiccup noise.  It then powers down and tries to power up again.  This happens over and over again.  The only way to stop this is by unplugging it and taking out the battery.  Help! When I try to power up the unit most of the time the screen stays completely blank, the CD drive seems to whir a bit then all the lights go off and the process starts all over again. After going through this process I usually "kill" the unit and restart all over again. The problem is not related to OS (reinstallled), boot order (set to boot from HDD). Really annoying never knowing if and when the unit will power up. Also, what's the definitive answer to the wireless card not being recognized any longer problem?

I can't help you with the first problem, but as far as the wireless card, if you reinstalled Windows, you have to reinstall the wireless card driver.

Hp laptop won't power on

Hello. It sounds like either...

1. Your power adapter is damaged/not working. Look and see if a LED is illuminating on the power adapter. If it is chances are it is working fine and the problem may lie on your laptop. If not replace it. The easiest way to tell if your power adapter is bad is to go out to Wal-Mart or your local technology store and purchase one of their universal power adapters. They are expensive but you can buy it, try it, and return it if it does not solve the problem.

OR

2. The DC pin on your laptop is bent/broken/loose. Look at where your power adapter plugs in on your laptop. Get a paper clip, bend it out to make a long paper clip and slightly push its tip on the pin inside your laptop. If the pin moves chances are either the DC pin needs to be soldered down or needs to be replaced. The part is usually cheap around $10 but the labor can cost more than $50

Laptop won't turn on

Remove main battery and try again, have the power supply adapter checked, the DC jack in the motherboard is another source of trouble from no power to intermittent operation, at this point the laptop must be dismantled to down to the main board to address the issue.

MY SAMSUNG P35 LAPTOP STOP ITSELF ON BATERY AND AC POWER

This maybe heat problem.
When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermaloverload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is theproblem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make surethe vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed airto do this.

Hi.

Take out the AC power jack and then remove the laptop battery. Plug AC power back in and see if the laptop will turn on. If it turns on let it boot the operating system and then shut down as normal, remove the power cord and reinsert the battery and again see if it will switch on. If it does then there has been a glitch with the battery. If it doesn't then there is a problem with the battery.

If the laptop won't switch on either with or without the battery then there is a possibility that the motherboard has developed a problem.

Good luck.

My dell inspiron 1545 won't shut down went i click on the shut down icon it won't turn off .

Hold down the power button for 10 seconds. That will hard-shut the PC. Once that is done, fire it back up, and try again. Somethimes, windows will act goofy shutting down. Especially Vista when it is left on too long without shutting it down.

Greetings! Whenever you're dealing with a laptop computer that does not power up the first thing you want to do is disconnect the AC adapter from the laptop. The next step is to remove the battery from the laptop. Then reinsert the battery and reconnect the AC adapter. Press the power switch at this point and see if the laptop will power up normally.

Laptops are also prone to overheating. If the laptop powers up after it has cooled down and then fails again you may be dealing with an overheating issue. Try taking a standard can of compressed air and blowing out the ducts that supply fair to the cooling fan, as well as blowing off any "dust bunnies" or visible debris that have accumulated on the cooling fan itself.

Also make sure that the laptop is not sitting in an orientation that impedes the airflow to the cooling fan.
