Question about Kenwood KM800 Major Classic Stand Mixer
The 0.1 microfarad can be safely replaced with a 275 VAC 0.1mF mains capacitor. You can remove the clip that held the old electrolytic capacitor by sliding the old capacitor out and squeeezing the metal clip so that it disengages with the plastic base. The load resistor is 450 Ohm 15W or 20W wirewound. There is a 56 ohm resistor in series with the capacitor which helps smooth the speed change and reduces wear on the contacts. A 2W wirewound resistor works best. (It is worth removing the contacts and removing any pitting or carbon build up with fime emery paper). I have repaired about 20 speed controls sucessfully with these components.

You have hit the nail on the head, i have repaired my Kenwood Chef with these two AC type capacitors. The Electrolytic type which came out with the mixer are not available anymore. What i did was buy a 0.1 uf AC cap and a 0.01 uf AC cap, twisted one leg of each together, soldered wires to the three legs and used Heat Shrink to seal the joints up. The difference between an AC, or non Electrolytic Cap and an AC Electrolytic Cap are that the Electrolytic one is ever so more responsive. My mixer is now good for another 10,000 miles. The caps dont have to be spicifically Maplin caps, as long as they are the correct value and are 220volt rated.

The capacitor is rated at 1000V a modern cap will be OK .01uf and the resitor is 450ohm 15w there is a resitor across the resitor which is 56Ohm 2W there are 2 small ferite chokes on the mains input . Have a look on ebay full kit with all the components for 17.00 do a search for kenwood motor repair
