I've read on this and other boards that replacing a capacitor is the fix. Can you help identify which capacitor and any safety precautions needed to safely replace it/them.? Thanks

Thanks for the info. Do you know if the capacitor needs to be discharged in any way before replacing in order to avoid electrical shock? And if so how? Thanks again.

I had the same problems with the white lines so i replaced the capacitor at place 2465 and now only half of the screen is showing, i dont know if the guy who replaced the cap messed something up or if it is another problem, anyone know how to fix this? The guy said that the cap at 2465 was indeed a bad cap

Jon5902,

Pls note that my experience is with the phillips 27" model27PT6341/07. It may not be the same board as yr model, as I can't remember nor find the service manual anymore. (browse around online for it though)

However, after taking the back off. Look close to the rca jack and svideo connection. Mine is located about an inch from the svideo connection.

Here are some pics that may help you.

The new one is the black and gold one marked 10uf 100v in the pic.
Other users have advised to go as high as 10uf 250v, to avoid having the cap overload again.

PS. I had the lines for about 2 weeks. They got steadily worse then one day my tv looked like it was broadcasting an hourglass. The lines converged in the center and flared outward (no pic).

Not sure what you can expect. I have been told to unplug and allow about 4hrs for it to discharge.

Typical symptom of a faulty screen voltage capacitor. You'd need a schematic to locate the cap and then change it out.

Phillips/Magnavox 9P5544C102 white raster and shuts down

This denotes a problem called blooming the horizontal lines you see are called retrace lines this is caused by the increase in anode voltage which could be caused by an increase in HV section current which trips the overcurrent protection dircuit and turns the TV off.If you do not have electronics experience I would suggest taking the set to a TV repair shop.
