Question about Toshiba 50H81 50" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Bad Picture I just purchased this model (used) and I get a messed up picture unless I go to a split screen. When I'm at the split screen I can push the touch focus on the TV and it will do the focus then revert to full screen and work great......until I change the channel. If I run it through my cable box I can set the TV to channel 3 and change channels through the cable box, but if I turn it off or go to split screen when I come back the picture is all messed up again and I have to do a touch focus again. I checked the convergence and everything is fine there.

    I can see the menu fine. When I change a channel or turn it on the screen comes in fine at first for about a second then it is messed up. What I mean by messed up is that the signal looks almost like a blocked channel that is scrambled. Like when a premium channel is blocked and the signal is scrambled. I have checked all the blocked setting and I unblocked everything I could find.

When you say messed up do you mean the convergence is out? please explain a little more detail as to what you are seeing. Also when its messed up if you press the menu button on the remote does the menu look good?

    This is a common problem on your model it sounds like you have a bad hyper module. This module is not made anymore but there is a company that is able to rebuild it for you. If you call a repair man to come and take it out of your tv and send it off for repair you can expect to pay $500-$700 for the repair. If you are able to solder i can get you in touch with the company and help you furthur. let me know what way you would like to go.

    This company will fix the module but you will have to either be able to un-solder it from the tv or have someone un-solder it from the tv and send it off to them. I have seen trained technicians brake the circuit board getting it out so if you are going to attempt this yourself please let me know so i can help you more

    Thanks

Its not clear what kind of tv you have but it appears to be older rear projection tv with three picture tube. This problem does occur due to the convergence board going bad. Needs professional help to repair unless you know a lot about soldering ICs. Check out at www.fixurtvs.com for more answers on this problem, repairs and costs.

Can`t get clear picture anymore

Hello dhack56,

Can you post a picture of the screen as the TV is playing, this way I can see if the picture is fuzzy, or if the images are split, all of which classify as not a clear picture. A picture of the screen will help with the diagnosis.

Thank you,

WD-52525 screen is jumping all around with wavy horizontal lines etc.

Good Day;

Keep talking to the factory, it is their product. Best Buy won't replace unless it is deemed not repairable and/or terms of the contract. You purchased the extra warranty because you most have felt that the TV might break down. Well, it did, now use the contract to repair your TV.

Good Luck, big IRISH.
