Which components need to be replaced when horizontal lines appear?

What horizontal lines do you mean? I can think of several.

- You could have a line of dead pixels on your monitor, this would probably be caused by wear and tear of the monitor, or because it has been handled the wrong way.

- You could be experiencing 'screen tearing'. This is caused by your videocard struggling for a moment.

- If you're running an older, analog monitor, it could be because the cable you're using is getting older and needs to be replaced.

Samsung LD220 - background (plain blue) has continuous horizontal wavy lines that move up the screen. As if straight water ripples are going up screen. But, pop-up windows display fine since they are...

There may be a few issues her, try changing the contrast andbrightness of the screen, this can be done by using the buttons on the monitor, check any documentation you have if you're having trouble. If this doesn't fix it could be a monitor problem for your videocard itself. Try using another monitor,if possible, to test your video card or try your monitor on another pc/laptop. If the monitor works fine on another machine then chancesare it's a problem with your video card, it may even need replacing.

Very horizontal faint white lines running down the screen

hi,

check if the line appears in BIOS...dont worry when i say BIOS...not sure how to check...turn the system off...restart the system and keep tapping the F2 key...you would get a Blue screen...check if the lines appear on this screen...if it appears...it could either be b'cause the display driver has gone wrong or the system might have a physical damage.....if the lines does not occur on this screen....it is a manufacturing defect...please contact the manufacturer and report the issue for solution.......

Videocard problem?

Hello Gergerald,

To isolate the issue further connect the notebook to an external monitor and check the display on it. If the display is perfect on external monitor then the issue is with the LCD screen of the notebook.

If you have got the same lineds on the external monitor then the issue is with the video card of the notebook.

Screen goes black with white horizontal line.

WHEN does this problem occur? Does it ONLY happen after the computer loads Windows (or another OS), or does it happen as soon as you turn the monitor on? We really need more information before we can provide specific advice or suggestions... IF this happens as soon as you turn the monitor on, switch it with a different monitor. If the problem goes away, the original monitor is defective, and probably not worth the cost of repairing it. If the problem ONLY happens after you load Windows, boot the system into Safe Mode (press the F8 key during bootup until you see the menu which allows you to select Safe Mode), then reboot and see if the problem has been resolved; simply booting into Safe Mode, then rebooting the system into Windows MIGHT solve this WITHOUT requiring you to change any system settings... IF the problem remains in Windows AFTER you've booted into Safe Mode AND rebooted back to Windows, the videocard driver might be corrupted. In that case, you'll have to reinstall the vidcard driver to correct this problem... If all else fails, it IS possible that the videocard itself is defective; if installing an updated driver doesn't work, try swapping the videocard with a different one. BE SURE to uninstall the OLD videodriver, and install the proper one for the new videocard; if you don't install the correct driver, you could create MORE problems than you have right now...
