There should be a menu option for "aspect ratio" somewhere. The old standard was 4:3. The new is what was colled "wide screen" and is 16:9. I believe that this is under the video setup menu.

Samsung SPP4251AX/XXA Is it fixable if so how?

In order to ensure this is not caused by the input device, try changing it to a DVD player and see. Also look for any loose contacts in RC jack, cable and connectors. If problem persists, call in a qualified service technician.

The Best Place to Put Your Surround Sound Speakers

If you can’t feel the vibrations everywhere—in your cheeks, ears, toes—you’re not getting the most from your surround sound system. One easy way to improve surround sound quality is to focus on speaker placement. Crutchfieldadvisor.com has a detailed tutorial, offering such tips as:
  • Place your center channel speaker directly above your TV—centered if possible. Align the front edge with the front edge of your TV screen to reduce distortion caused by sound reflecting and diffracting off the TV’s cabinet.
  • Position your front left and right speakers in front, and at equidistant points to the left and right, of your primary listening spot. Your front speakers should be at a 22°–30° angle with respect to your television.
  • The tweeters should be at ear level when you’re seated.
  • Position surround sound speakers so that they’re ear-level when you’re standing.

How to set up a six speaker home theater surround sound system

This walk through is for a six speaker setup but can be used for any type. First you will have a sub., a center speaker, a surround L and R, and a front L and R. Most likely your speaker wire (silvery wire) will have a colored tip at end. This tip will show where the wire fits into the bluray or DVD player and what speaker it goes to. I am going to use the Surround Right or S.R. as an example because most the speakers are very similar to set up. The S.R. is (at least for me) a smaller black speaker with a gray sticker on the back indicating what wire should be use for it. The S.R. should be hung behind the main seat (Sofa, Chair, Etc.) and to your right side. and the wire should be ran around the ceiling to the DVD or Bluray player (its good to hide it behind wall edging or pictures) and then fit the colored piece at the end of the cord into the correct colored slot at the back of the player. If necessary use a staple gun to attach the wire to the the back of the wall edging (make sure the staples are not visible because I guarantee you won't want it there forever. Also, make sure to not tear or puncture the wire with the staple. Repeat this step for all the other speakers. Your setup should look some thing like this

Left Front Sp.////////// Center Sp. /////////// Right Front Sp.
//////////////////////sub. (directly below)////////////////

...................................Sofa.........................................

Left Surround ////////////////////////////////////// Right Surround

RCA serial 137651043, model P52939, 55 inch tv.

Half black? top/bottom or left right?

The set is rather old--a old trick to use is to connect a fan to the rear of set with the back off--it may extend the life of the set and give you some more use out of it.

I have seen a lot of these sets and never one with the problem you describe. If only a picture top or bottom is missing it may be vertical or if you are seeing what looks like a full picture with top or bottom black it is a Blanking problem--may not be easy to find...........

I have a 46" flat

IS your image actually being cut off by the black bars? If not this may simply be the way the signal is being transmitted to your TV. One quick way to tell is to check to see if the image is the same on all channels, while watching a DVD, or playing a game. Alternatively, you might look for a Format button on your TV remote. This button may cycle through the picture formats available to your TV. See if pressing this button changes the picture dimensions.

Hope that helps!

There is a black gap between the actual picture and the right edge of the monitor and it also "pushes" the picture into the left edge a half an inch or so, rendering it unviewable on the left...

the "horizontal position "control has been tampered with .but locating it and setting it can be hazardous so only a qualified person should do it .

The picture is round

No my freind, im afraid that you have bad waveshaper capacitors in the vertical sweep circuit in your TV set. This is not an adjustment. you should have a pro assist you with the repair of this set as it is dangerous because of the high voltage inside these sets.

Black comes across right side of screen

Sounds like you've got whats called a cold solder connection somewhere in the horizontal width control circuit or a connection in the sweep section. Should'nt be two expensive but unless you have had some soldering and troubleshooting experience I would leave this on to the pros. Good Luck
